There are three major manifestations: Bubonic plague - Without treatment, the bubonic plague kills about two thirds of infected humans within 4 days. Pneumonic plague - Untreated pneumonic plague has a very high fatality rate. Septicemic plague - is almost always fatal without treatment (the mortality rate in medieval times was 99-100 percent). Septicemic plague is the rarest of the three plague varieties; the other forms are bubonic and pneumonic plague.
