Quoting: TheOriginalMind "A consortium of plaintiffs led by 54 of Colorado’s 62 elected county sheriffs filed a lawsuit in federal court against the state Friday in an effort to overturn two new gun control bills that are set to go into effect on July 1. The plaintiffs have in their sights one law that effectively bans all firearm magazines, and one that requires a background check for every gun transfer when the gun will be in the possession of someone other than the owner for more than 72 hours. “On one hand, I’m proud to be part of this historic case,” said Weld County Sheriff John Cooke, who spoke on behalf of 18 sheriffs who attended a press conference announcing the suit. “But on the other hand, it saddens me that we have to be here at all,” he added. “It should never have gotten to this point in the first place.” El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa said the laws are not only unconstitutional, but also confusing and unenforceable." Quoting: Infidelium Anyone know the political leaning of the court this will end up in? Unfortunately that will determine whether the Constituion even comes into play. Well it was filed in federal court. It could go all the way to the Supreme Court since they're challenging the laws on constitutional grounds. Colorado falls under the 10th circuit court of appeals, which tends to lean right but, apparently, should be considered moderate. [link to www.dkosopedia.com] Of course that's only relevant if the first court shoots it down and the sheriffs appeal, which they probably would. |

I was up there visiting with him recently and we were shooting guns and some neighbors who are not really all that close, but obviously within ear shot called the cops... They are new to the area... The cops came over, hung out with us for a bit, and actually shot targets with us for a few minutes and said carry on... Police officers know guns. They know that their job is made much easier by law abiding citizens owning and practicing gun skills. Sheriffs know this all the more. |

My wife's family is from the sticks in Michigan, where people are shooting all the time. Her dad has about 10 guns and a room filled with ammo. I'm from Scotland so never saw a gun in my life until I moved to the States. I feel significantly safer here in the sticks than in a city or back in Europe. |

The people who make the laws aren't willing to die to enforce them, but they expect cops to risk getting shot for their little laws and their handouts. |

Like the military. They have some of the best knowledge of the Constitution in the country, simply because they have to learn it as part of their training. The soldiers I've known have had more accurate and historical knowledge of the Constitution than any professor I've met. |
