BREAKING! 2 mile wide F4 tornado over I-35 near Moore, OK - Oklahoma City

From the looks of the pictures, one of the class room walls fell into a hallway. It probably was an entire classroom that was huddled together and killed.

It could be that the older kids (who went to the church) were in portable buildings and there was simply no space in the main school building to put them.

Is he near Commanche? There has been a bad cell sitting on them for hours.

and broken pipes and broken fire sprinkler system.

Calling for generators with gas to go to the school.

Sounds like they maybe found someone alive in Plaza Towers. Lots of activity trying to find them.

20 children being brought to office. not included in the 51.

going to get really bad. school was still in session. the 24 3rd graders was just one classroom.

So sad for you guys over there. I don't know why the thought of those horses flying around really has me choked up. They are heavy strong animals. Very sad for the children.

We've lost a lot today in Oklahoma. It's going to take a very long time to recover. I just can't seem to take it all in. Shocking and tragic.

Medical examiner just said on Fox News they are waiting for 20 or more children to come in. On top of the children they already reported dead.

Unimaginable loss. I just have no words for all of this.

There was inspiration in the spirit of the people in the area, long before the first responders and emergency services arrived you seen hundreds of people, many who had suffered damage themselves running to the aid of others, risking injury to dig through the rubble of homes, business and especially at the schools.. It was an amazing thing to watch.

I wanted to report that all the family in Moore (and Shawnee and Edmon, it turns out) are safe and accounted for. Thank all of you for your help, care and concern! The folks at GLP really rock (most of them anyway!)!!!

When a tornado like this is coming, you either need to be below ground or getting out of the way by vehicle.

Anything else is not enough. Staying in an above ground structure is not enough.

The old advice used to be do not get into your car to try and get away. Now that advice has shown to be bad. Far more people are saved by getting in their vehicles and getting out of the way than are killed in their vehicles. The new advice will advise all people to leave and get out of the way if they can.

This was worse than May 3, 1999 but on that day, the spirit was very much the same. We all help our fellow man around here. It's amazing to see everyone consistently pull together and help.

Thanks for those links, Dr Acula. I most definitely want to do something to help. It's got to feel pretty overwhelming for the victims and the first responders! There will be lots of help needed...and I'm sure people will respond to do what they can.

I'd be willing to bet that Mercy Chefs make it there, too. They are another great organization - they were in NJ providing free meals for weeks after Sandy, and provided hundreds of meals in West, TX after the exlosion, as well as in Granbury after last weekends' tornado.

That works as long as not everybody tries to do it at once and causes gridlock. Then, everybody is a sitting duck hoping to find a deep ditch. But, yes, I am close to an interstate and can be 20 miles away in 15 minutes and most of the time we have at least a 15 minute warning. So, I have seriously considered making a run when they were headed directly towards us. However, every single time, the storms have turned, sometimes north, sometimes south just before getting here. So, not sure which direction to run without possibly running straight towards it.

Hearing reports from my folks that they are finding debris from Moore in Tulsa and now Branson MO. Wow.
