Quoting: Dr. Acula On a single farm... The "Ore" farm? sounds like "Ore" not sure on correct spelling... 75-100 horses killed... more may have to be put down due to injuries... etc Sure hope that they have more than 7 bullets for that large herd of badly injured horses that need to be humanely put down ASAP. |

Sending up prayers at thismoment for all of OK. and Tx Quoting: Little Miss Sunshine Relax, those schools have good underground shelters, unless they had NO warning they should all be okay, maybe a few minor injuries. Actually it does not sound like they had a shelter. People are pulling kids out of rubble now. No word if they are dead or alive yet. OMG....a CNN reporter on the ground...his name is Lance. He's crying and sobbing saying that they're pulling 3rd graders out of a school. |

As per the Weather Channel, Weather Center Live, at least a 'Mile and a Half Wide' field of damage. Confirmed by Weather Channel. A two miles wide tornado, F4, you got to be joking. That is totally impossible. |

Uhhhh - no they don't neccessarily have this.... In this area of the country underground building is cost prohibitive due to water table and foundation issues... Most of what schools have are reinforced safe zones - like areas built with cinder blocks instead of traditional framing... Pics are saying those didn't hold up too well... |

Yes, no underground shelter at the schools but didn't know about the safe zones. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1502149 United States 05/20/2013 05:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Let's say you went out into your yard and dug a round hole deep enough to get your body into. You had a piece of board or plywood marked with orange or highly visible coloring with words stating you were in there. The board has a handle so that once you are in the hole, you can hold on and hold the board over the hole, pulling downwards against the suction. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11701758 Would this be a good idea? I mean say you are poor and can't really afford a shelter. You are not safe inside your home and need to be underground. I guess a spider hole would be the best idea. Anyone with a shovel should be able to at least dig down and dig a hole. You need to be highly aware of where you will dig to avoid digging into water or underground power lines. You would probably have to at least dig down four or five feet, enough to crouch. It might not even be "Legal" to do this, but heck with that. That thing would just suck the board and you out of the ground. These people need underground shelters. Even if they can't put in a basement, a small bunker underground would be sufficient. Even an empty septic tank buried somewhere on the property would afford some protection if properly anchored so it wouldn't float up out of the ground. |

I assumed that all public schools had storm shelters that were build to survive the worst, I've been in some in the past in that area that did. I can't believe this isn't mandatory for all schools and public facilities in that area. Shocking. |

Crying for these people. Praying for these people. Just stunning. T For Texas, T For Tennessee! The virtue of courage is a prerequisite for the practice of all other virtues, because otherwise one is virtuous only when virtue has no cost. There are times when something needs to be done, and yet we know that if we step up and do this needful thing, we will pay a heavy personal price. -C.S. Lewis |
