Re: Pigeon Peas-a prolific and versatile food crop!! and like Moringa, will be vital in the near future!
I found my Florida cranberry seeds on a craigslist ad. I was surprised to find out it was a young kid (middle school age) selling the seeds. At the time I called he was out collecting seeds at a sanctuary. He also had seeds for upland rice and an ancient variety of corn grown by the Hopi Indians in the very dry southwest Usa. That kid was so cool.

If it is too far offshore then we will get no rain as it draws it all away. If it comes over the top of us we have no low ground so plenty of rain is ok. We just have to worry about wind but we are far inland so it's usually not too bad. Sometimes we do get damage tho so we will be on high alert just in case.

I dont want anyone to get hurt but I love the storms. It's exciting and you can feel the air being sucked away. Plus it's cloudy and we get a break from the heat. Weather is awesome.

Why bother growing peas for protein when all you have to do is let some cats go?

They feed themselves reproduce prolifically and provide an EXCELLENT protein source.

I read somewhere the green pod inside the Florida cranberry calyx can be fed to chickens.
 Quoting: lionhound

you only eat the red calix?
 Quoting: Luisport

The green pod is edible too but I cant wait to try the cranberry calyx. I hope it does taste like cranberries and can be baked into orange cranberry muffins.

Nice pics there. Mine are past the seedlings stage and putting lots of leaves on. They are about a foot tall and growing fairly fast.

I am the proud owner of a nearly ready to produce jaboticaba. Producing this year or next. My brother found an oldtimer who had a few older specimens. God bless the older generation. I also picked up a carambola (star fruit). chorus

Are there none in your area? Maybe a little one would survive the mail. I don't know, they are very thirsty. I will help you if I can. It would not be torture to visit my brother again and pick up another plant. But I have no ideas on how to prepare for shipping.hf besides, I was thinkking about getting a little one to try and train as bonsai.

I think he starts his from cuttings but he did say that his tree(at his house) would start blooming in september. He showed me one blossom but said it was too early. I could ask him to save the seeds. If mine blooms I will send you some of course. It may not bloom this year.

Ok I have some bad news. After some research I found I can't ship plants because I'm not a registered nursery. Plus expensive permits are needed. Let me see if I can find someone to help us. My brother has lots of contacts for plants.

I talked to my brother and he said he will go by the oldtimers place this weekend and find out how his friend sends plants from Bahamas. My brother comes to GLP sometimes (he is a doomtard and gardener too). He knows Luisport is a cool guy so he wants to help.hf
It's nice to have a fellow doomtard in the family. Also he is a master gardener and teaches me. My God given gift is with animals so I was a terrible gardener at first but now I do MUCH better.

Only from this thread. This place in Miami sells and ships both mamey and jaboticaba. There is a pdf price list. You can ship multiple plants together to save money. If you email them they would give a price for shipping.
