Saved a Brumby's life yesterday
Just come back from my farm where I had an encounter with a wild brumby. I noticed him hanging around in the top field on Thursday and he didn't seem to concerned by my presence. He was just eating and watching me as I went about my work.

I've seen a few wild brumby's before but they usually take off at the first sign of humans. This guy was just hanging around, watching me watch him. I saw him in almost the same place on Friday and thought it was a bit strange so I tried to approach him but he took off. I noticed his gait was awkward and thought he might be injured.

On Saturday he was gone and I didn't think anymore about him till I went out on Sunday and he was there by the gate to the top field. Surprisingly, he let me approach him and I saw he was wrapped up in fence wire.

Now, I've never had horses and know absolutely zip about them, but I could see he was in real trouble. The wire was looped twice around his rear left leg and then ran up his belly and chest and was looped around his neck several times.

He must have been in incredible pain as it appeared the wire had cut into his leg and the top of his neck. He let me pat him and I started trying to unravel it from is neck. I don't how he got himself into this predicament or how long he had it on him but he patiently stood there while I got most of the wire off him. After 20 minutes and a few snips he was finally free. I thought he was take off but he hung around for the rest of the day.

I rang the local vet who told me he had never heard of wild brumby's coming up to humans. He is going to visit today and make sure he is ok.

Good on you for helping an animal in need. It's one of the greatest feelings to do things like that.

I had to pull a wedge tailed eagle out of a rabbt trap once years ago.

It knew what I was doing, and sat there while I freed it (instead of clawing the fuck out of me).

Its a great thing to help another animal.
