Anonymous Coward User ID: 25992474 United States 06/19/2013 05:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Go on elance.com and find freelance writing work EASY. That's where I find all my design and web programming work. Quoting: JustinSider Elance is a pain in the ass, you're competing against Indian "SEO copywriters" who don't mind getting paid a lot less than you expect to be paid. I would suggest as much professional networking in your niche as possible. I have gotten the best gigs through meeting people in my industry, as more and more people were reading my work, more people wanted to work with me. Now I can't go to a conference without being offered a new gig. Of course, I'm sure those types of opportunities aren't as readily available in Utah as they are in DC. Also, look around. Businesses you frequent might have blogs, and chances are they suck. I bartered the down payment on my new car with the dealer I bought it from in exchange for helping them with their shitty content. |

That's very helpful, thank you. I've thought about printing out some business cards and dropping them off at local businesses where I know the material really well and could knock out content like nobody's business. That's really nice of you. Thanks. -- EK |
phfaty User ID: 38788672 Federated States of Micronesia 06/19/2013 06:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've been doing a lot of copy work outside of Utah, but since I live here it would probably be to my advantage to find some more local work. If anyone knows a website owner or anyone that needs material written, please let me know. The life of a writer, like most artists, is a broke-ass one... Quoting: ElectricKoolaid ...and I don't know if I'd have it any other way. Though eating properly would be nice. :) Have you signed up on any of the online outsourcing websites for copy work? There is also fiverr.com and many others out there. Maybe time for a career change? |

I've dreamed of being a writer my entire life and I've finally got myself in a position where I can make a run for it, even if it's difficult. I gave up 50k a year for this shit! :) -- EK |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 27317240 United States 06/21/2013 12:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 1) Set up a website where you can charge to proofread the writing of others. Charge for grammatical corrections or even offer "consultation". Not only do students look for that type of service but small businesses always need a reliable error checking for their own marketing. 2) Have musicians hire you to write their bios (usually 250 - 1500 words). In my experience, most musicians compensate their ability to cleverly arrange lyrics by having horrible writing skills in regards to standard text. Have them give you the details they want included and get creative with describing their stage persona. |
