POLL: Do you like my budget pc build?
 Yes.
I could have saved more money.
I would have wasted more money.
 What are you talking about?
 No.

Was on GLP so much one day, about 2 weeks ago, my computer of 6 years was no longer operable. What I deemed a dead CPU, but could potentially any number of things. I decided that I was going to buy a new one! I also wanted to save money. I have setup servers in technical classes, but I've never built a whole system from scratch.

I found this video, after doing a bit of my own research on builds out there.

This was exactly what I was looking for! My old PC may have crapped out, but I still had 2 hard drives, and a graphics card! I took it as an opportunity to save money.

The case was on sale for forty bucks, and it's a very nice big case. For the PSU instead of the CX430 I went with the CX600. Simply because I needed the extra PEG connector(2 for the graphics card), and since the case has so many HDD slots the extra SATA power connectors are great! I also grabbed 2 x 4 gbs of RAM instead of the suggested 2 x 2 in the video.

I left out a few bits like the optical drive, and a wifi adapter. So all I got was just the APU, MOBO, RAM, PSU, and the white NZXT Source 210 case!

When It got here I had already watched enough videos to not have to hesitate or look anything up. I was done very swiftly. Got it in the case, and it looked beautiful!

I'm not all that wealthy, and I don't have any friends. It's safe to say I've actually never seen a computer that was this high end.

It's not the latest, but nothing stays the latest for long anyhow. I bought at what I saw as an opportune time, I filled my needs perfectly, and saved money!

What do you all think?!

junecomp1

The white case is really my favorite part. Who wants a boring old black computer anyway?

Which motherboard and model did you get?

I am curious that you have an Nvidia card in what looks like an AMD chipset board.

If the mobo and board are both AMD you can use SDK to have the GPU and CPU process in "tandem" and achieve some gains.

The case is pretty nice. I have 3 high end boxes at home and they all are generic tan cases. hehheh

Nice job

Each time a person stands for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he or she sends forth a tiny ripple of hope. And crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. Few are willing to embrace the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change. Of course this is an issue about money as well. But I stopped upgrading my PCs. Its better to buy an all new one, mainly because if you upgrade your CPU or something you have useless components lying around. If you buy a new machine you can use the old one as a media center, dedicated emulation machine or something.

oh okay, then i got the OP wrong. I build myself a media PC to hang up on the beamer, got an APU as well but I went for a celeron g550. I have to say i'm quite impressed on what the new APUs achieve.

If you notice in the one picture. The case has some holes cut out where the wire can go through out and back in.

See the PSU on the bottom? All the wires disappear into that little cut out.

There are some new ones out that have quad-core ARMs which cost less than $100. Great for just playing vids and surfing the web.

Bad Choice. I've run Windows 7 and 8 using the SAME hardware. Windows 7 is faster.

Windows 8, IMHO sucks. Its for tablets and touch-screen computers. Not for business or gaming systems. When you're serious, go back to Win - 7 professional.

I'd have recommended XP as well except that its just getting old and not supported.

My first machine I built from scratch? A taiwanese mobo with a (ahem) 65 watt power supply, Intel Pentium, 640 KILObytes of memory configured as 4 banks of old-school ram chips.
(2 banks of 256K chips, and 2 banks of 64K chips). 10 MEGAbyte HDD, 1.44 5 1/4 inch floppy drive.

Running MS-DOS, amber monitor (Color video cards were extra!)
