I agree. But since I brought it up you probably mean me.
-but that is what I was trying to say, the term is not used any more and autism is one of the replacement terms for what used to be called mentally retarded.

And what I was trying to say is that someone who is truly intellectually disabled such-as what used to be called, "mentally retarded"--but sometimes is now labeled as Autism,-what I was trying to say is that in those cases, yes, I agree they need the kind of help that society can give-financially and otherwise.

This whole, "spectrum" idea about Autism, is supposed to support having so many differently-able people ALL sharing the same label. But really it makes it easier to handicap people like OP, who are really just a little different that what society considers typical.
