As someone who works in one of the worlds leading upper-level research institutions, and happen to teach and work with a large number of adult "Asperger/Autistic" types, the only thing I can really say for certain about them is:
(and this is entirely from personal observation) They seem to be OVERTLY fixated on themselves. THEIR needs, THEIR wants, THEIR desires, what makes THEM uncomfortable, the kind of things that bother THEM. They pursue their own interest and passions to the point of ignoring every other person in their lives, and other people go: Oh cute. He has Aspergers.
Now this is somewhat vexing for people around them too. Why? Well although the individual in question might happen to be quite brilliant, it's not fun to be around someone who is only concerned about themselves. All the time.
That is why I call these "disorders" SELFISH disorders.
From the time we are all young, we all have to deal with situations that make us upset, that make us uncomfortable, that make us cringe, to deal with people we don't want to deal with, who intimidate us, who make us afraid etc.
Part of growing up is learning to tolerate these situations and learning that sometimes we have to do uncomfortable things, like talking to the check-out man at the grocery store, even though he bothers us. It makes us uncomfortable.
Well Autistic and Asperger types never learn to be aware of OTHERS needs and Wants. they are focused on their OWN experience so deeply they can't. It never occurs to them that the man at the grocery store might be terribly shy and uncomfortable too, because the Asperger person is far too fixated on themselves to even consider the other person.
Feel free to discuss this or disagree with me. It's just something I have observed.

Theyre probably people who resist the system and the herd , and are independent thinkers . they probably are people who DO care about you and the right thing , and they want to do right . but the thing is , they discover what god wants them to do through their own discoveries , instead of going with what the herd thinks . they are INDEPENDENT THINKERS . they discover what the right thing is and believe in the moral absolute , so they refuse to recognize society's views as valid . Why should they ? Society's mainstream is a polluted bunch of psychos ! Most of the people you describe probably care about the right thing , they just discover the moral absolute on their own , and refuse to give into the immoral viewpoints of society or accept them , because unlike society they arent fools who believe in moral relativism and other pseudo-leftists crap . so being the whinebabies you are , you psycho ologists accuse them of being selfish when in reality THEY CARE , they just have discovered the right thing throuh god and refuse to give in to society's way of thinking , and refuse to accept other views as valid because they believe in a moral absolute and refuse to give into the "moral relativism" liberal crap . Good for them ! Independent thinking is NOT the same as sociopathy and emotionlessness and not caring for others , you idiot . In fact its been proven most people who refuse to have empathy ( and by the way its a moral choice you arent born un empathetic ) are those who also refuse to have independent thinking
