So Mercury is supposed to station direct July 20, at 2:17pm.
I'm no expert on Astrology but doesn't it actually stop for several hours before it goes direct? How many hours? 12? 6? 3?

Actually it doesn't stop at all, this is just a perception error. It is so slow in apparently changing directionthat it seems to stop. So depending on the precision degree of your observation you can consider it to have stopped for anything between a few minutes and several hours, I suppose. See what I mean ?
