Castro decade long kidnap case: BS or not?

I just saw the three women on tv who were supposedly held in a suburban house for 10 or so years.

This case makes my BS meter go off the scale, I find it very hard to believe that one man can kidnap 3 grown women and hold them hostage for so long in just a normal suburban house, while he leaves them alone because he holds down a regular job.

An absolutely soundproof and inescapable dungeon would be a minimal requirement, but he seems to have just held them upstairs in a boarded up shithole of a house.
