What is 9th of av?

The Crusade officially started on the 9th of Av. The 9th of Av is a day of mourning in Judaism. It is an appointed day for destruction and death. Interesting. So this isn't another name for July 15th? or is it? No, it has nothing to do with our modern calendar. It has to do with the Hebrew calendar. For the Hebrew calendar... the day starts at sundown as opposed to the stroke of midnight. So.... when the sun sets in Jerusalem in a few hours it will officially be the start of the 9th of Av.
