David Capstick described the soldiers’ “compassionate plea” for water as “alarming”, as temperatures neared 30C in the Brecon Beacons. It comes as tributes were paid to Territorial Army soldier Lance Corporal Craig Roberts, who died during a trial for the SAS. L/Cpl Roberts collapsed as he marched laden with kit in the Welsh mountains on the hottest day of the year so far. The 24-year-old was among six hopefuls taken ill at the start of a week-long selection process for the reserve unit of the SAS. A second soldier, who has not been named, also died, while a third remained in hospital. Why did they not have enough water for the trip? One needs more than a gun to survive, especially on a mountain. Also, you cannot seriously expect people raised on video games and television to meet the same strenuous standards as previous generations.

Also, you cannot seriously expect people raised on video games and television to meet the same strenuous standards as previous generations. Quoting: The Lump Under the Carpet Think these were probably SAS mate, the brecons are used a lot by them. Lugging 100lb backpacks up mountains in 90deg 70% humidity is dangerous, its killed these guys from exposure.

It was the Fan Dance, a selecton test for SAS candidates. There's a ninety per cent failure rate. It's pretty gruelling stuff, but these fellas were doing it on the hottest day of the year.
