Dear disaffected Democrats: Welcome to the Libertarian Party, we think you will find our social tolerance delightful. However in exchange for this, you're going to have to find a way to be ok with people keeping their guns and more of their money.

Dear disaffected Republicans: Welcome to the Libertarian Party, we think you will find our small government economic policies to your liking. However in exchange you will have to find a way to be ok with "the gays" getting married.

I voted yes.
I think since disarming people hasn't worked as well as they hoped, they are trying to disarm people by stealth.
Raising the whole issue of the 'Stand your Ground' law, which wasn't even argued in the Zimmerman case is an indicator of this stealth disarming.
First, they'll want to chip away at self defense laws or make the use of them so difficult that it won't be an option.
Then, hammer away at open and concealed carry laws. Since using a gun for self defense isn't workable, then why allow a person to carry one?
I don't think this will work any better for them than the overt disarming campaign, but they are relentless and will never give up.

Florida Governor Refuses To Revisit "Stand Your Ground" Law

On Wednesday, the NAACP entered the fray, with WCTV-TV reporting that Scott received a letter from the group asking him to return to Tallahassee.

“I’ve gotten calls from mothers and fathers worried about school,” wrote Tallahassee NAACP President Dale Landry. “That’s why the governor has to come back. We have to take another look at this.”

According to the Palm Beach Post, Scott is not budging. He sent a letter of his own to Florida NAACP President Adora Obi Nweze late Wednesday, informing the group that travel will prohibit him from returning to the capitol on Thursday. Scott also argued that the Zimmerman case and Stand Your Ground were not directly tied.

“After holding seven public meetings and considering 16,603 pieces of correspondence and 160 public comments at Task Force meetings, the Task Force concurred with the Stand Your Ground law and I agree,” Scott wrote, according to the paper. “It is also important to note that Florida’s Stand Your Ground law was not argued in the Zimmerman case.”

For those of us that live in Florida, it does mean something. There are groups of people camping out at our Capitol trying to have this law repealed.

And for the woman that is in prison right now, it is bringing awareness on our Mandatory Minimum Sentencing Guidelines.

The "stand your ground " law and "self defense" are two separate things....the Zimmerman case was not stand your ground......read both laws.
OP was right about this being about power, this administration couldn't get the support they wanted for their asinine gun laws so they will gain ground where they can.

I think the proper law should be "protect what is yours" including your life and your property and loved ones.

"Stand your ground" is implying that public ground becomes private merely by your presence on it. This is wrong and will incite some into being territorial over public ground.

By the way, the Marissa Alexander case, more race baiting by the MSM. Watch this video and see the other side of the story, the side they don't want you to know about.

Once again, it's about the trial, we have a justice system for a reason, so sensational bullshit journalists and people with agendas don't get to make the laws.

Governor Scott Issues Proclamation for a Statewide Day of Prayer for Unity in Florida

Tallahassee, Fla. –Today, Governor Scott issued the following proclamation for a Statewide Day of Prayer for Unity in Florida:

WHEREAS, the people of Florida are strong and optimistic people who band together in times of crisis; and

WHEREAS, Florida has faced many challenges before – including natural disasters – with a spirit of unity and perseverance; and

WHEREAS, the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin is a tragedy; and the Martin family, the family of George Zimmerman, and all those affected by Trayvon’s death remain in our thoughts and prayers; and

WHEREAS, emotions are running high as we continue to grieve the loss of Trayvon and the toll that the tragic events surrounding his death have taken on the community of Sanford, Florida, and other communities across our state; and

WHEREAS, tragic events compel us to a time of deep reflection and prayer to find strength and peace in uncertainty; and

WHEREAS, Floridians are unified in not only their resilience, but also in being a people of great humility, kindness, and compassion;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Scott, Governor of the State of Florida, do hereby declare
Sunday, July 21, 2013, as a STATEWIDE DAY OF PRAYER FOR UNITY IN FLORIDA.

This case wasn't a stand your ground case. It was a self-defense case, as could happen in any state. The top law enforcement person (ugh!) in the country doesn't even know that. And actually more blacks benefit from Stand Your Ground in Miami than white people.

Good for Rick Scott for not caving. It's bad enough he gave Florida that stupid woman prosecutor. I forgot her name and she's not worth looking up.

Re: FLORIDA'S " STAND YOUR GROUND LAW " STAYS - GOVERNOR SCOTT AFFIRMS
This entire Zimmerman/Martin thing isnt about black/white issues. It isnt about race wars. It is about the Stand your Ground laws. It is about gun control. When they attacked the 2nd amendment the people spoke up and said gun ownership isnt about hunting, its about defending ourselves.

Zimmerman/Martin put the legalities of defending ourselves on the table. Before this is over, defending oneself will be against the law and we will no longer have legal grounds to do so. This is how they will take our guns.

"You dont need a gun to defend yourself because defending yourself against an attacker is illegal".

Gun control. This is how these morans think.

Matter of fact from this point forward EVERYTHING these people do will be about gun control. China said it best: You can not invade America because there will be a gun behind every blade of grass. A foreign enemy has taken over the United States Government and is acting like our Government however, this is a full fledged invasion by a foreign enemy. In order to completely take over they must take our guns. This is where they are at in their "chess game". They can not make another move without disarming Americans. All other pieces are in place.

And until our military, police, judges, lawyers and the people wake up, they will eventually take our guns, kill us all off and take our land.
It`s OK to tell your Government No.

She didnt stand her ground. A self defence weapon is only to be used to defend your life. If you believe your life is in imminent danger of ending you shoot to kill or dont shoot at all.

When she fired a warning shot she essentially said her life wasn't in imminent danger. Therefore use of a firearm was not justified.

When you fire a weapon in self defense you dont shoot to scare , injure or maim.

You shoot to eliminate the threat. Period.

My only thing with the whole "they're trying to take our guns!" thing is this; There is no constitutional precedent over banning bullets. If they really wanted to take them off the table, why wouldn't they go for that?

Not saying that I think that view is wrong, it's pretty obvious they are working towards that agenda. Just saying that would be an easier path.

Re: FLORIDA'S " STAND YOUR GROUND LAW " STAYS - GOVERNOR SCOTT AFFIRMS
My only thing with the whole "they're trying to take our guns!" thing is this; There is no constitutional precedent over banning bullets. If they really wanted to take them off the table, why wouldn't they go for that?

Not saying that I think that view is wrong, it's pretty obvious they are working towards that agenda. Just saying that would be an easier path.

Well, it has been harder to get bullets. This is something that has been a concern to many. It could very well happen. But there are plenty of people that know how to make their own bullets.

If "stand your Ground" is morally or politically wrong what do you call what is politically correct?

"Give Up Your Home"?

"Take My Daughter, Please!"

"Heres My Wallet"?

What would they call the proper law?

I'm a Floridian. I voted yes, I agree with our Governor.

I do think they should reevaluate the case on the woman that received 20 years for "Standing Her Ground." She should not be in prison.

no she shouldn't be in jail but where was the black community for her??

I've been wondering that myself. Where have they been and why aren't they fighting for her now?

She didnt stand her ground. A self defence weapon is only to be used to defend your life. If you believe your life is in imminent danger of ending you shoot to kill or dont shoot at all.

When she fired a warning shot she essentially said her life wasn't in imminent danger. Therefore use of a firearm was not justified.

When you fire a weapon in self defense you dont shoot to scare , injure or maim.

You shoot to eliminate the threat. Period.

Well said. The only thing that needs to be revisited in this case is the Mandatory Minimum Sentencing Guidelines. 20 years is a bit much.
