'Tis the business of little minds to shrink; but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death." Thomas Paine, The American Crisis, No. 1, December 19, 1776 "Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigues of supporting it." Thomas Paine, The American Crisis, No. 4, September 11, 1777 "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. Already they have raised up a monied aristocracy that has set the government at defiance. The issuing power (of money) should be taken away from the banks and restored to the people to whom it properly belongs." -- Thomas Jefferson, U.S. President. "A majority of the people of the United States have lived all of their lives under emergency rule. For 40 years, [79 years now in 2012] freedoms and governmental procedures guaranteed by the Constitution have in varying degrees been abridged by laws brought into force by statutes of national emergency." |

Thus, what they do is remove the ability of non-financial entities to do real business (like generate power, or build pipelines, or make beercans)...because Goldman is too busy making money gaming the system from the rent it gets in Michigan Aluminum warehouses... see?! Where exactly do you see a computer firm created by a bank? Thankfully, so far the Fed and the owning banks have not yet sought to install directors onto the board of Apple or Dell. What lets me hear your message is the internet, which was in fact invented on the corridor i used to work in at CERN. So, please, don't lecture about capital formation when you are clearly clueless about REAL capitalism. |

Well, I am rallying against the fact that banks are regulated by the Fed, which is owned by the banks. The Fed allows those banks to obtain money more cheaply than any other enterprise (e.g. Apple Inc., or IBM, or Conoco, or Johnson & Johnson) so when the banks decide to play their game, they can essentially take out the competition, because they can lever up and use free money. No-one else can do that, and indeed the Fed didn't always allow it.. but now, with the discount rate so low (edit: and Glass-Steagall removed), they do allow it. And the result, if you look at the Senate Subcommittee video in full, which I encourage you to do (it's 2h long), will be that you see a Company like MillerCoors LLP has to wait 18 months to get Aluminum to make beer cans. That only happened since the banks took over the Warehousing of Aluminum for the LME. It happens because the banks can make money charging spurious rent to MillerCoors for their Aluminum whilst they wait for it. Outrageous. This has happened because the banks have essentially removed the judicial (legal) obstacles -- e.g. Glass-Steagall. It wasn't always like this, and many of the most inventive phases of America's history happened with Glass-Steagall in place. Last Edited by Physicist on 07/25/2013 02:49 PM |
