How French secretly filmed prison camp life in WWII
One of the most extraordinary episodes involving Allied prisoners during World War II was recently remembered in Paris.

They had been defeated in the Battle of France and marched to the furthest reaches of the Reich. In 1940, Oflag 17a must have felt a bleak, unforgiving place for the 5,000 French officers who were now prisoners-of-war.

Saw this story on aljazeera i think it was the other day. Brave guys doing what they did. Not to mention the ingenuity they displayed digging tunnel after tunnel, while half starved!

Right on.
Film cameras were complex, precision built devices with a rotating petal shutter. (Look up a schematic).
"Reversal" film was used, with complex developing chemicals, complex procedures and specialized equipment; not ANY of this available to prisoners in any shape or form. The smallest was 16mm film back then, shooting at 16 to 24fps. That's a lotta film for POWs to procure.

It's a hoax for a generation, that knows nothing about movie filming and its multifaceted complexity at the time.
