Backpacking recipes - food for your BOB - and dehydrating info!

There are some threads with some great info for dehydrating foods on GLP.

Buying dehydrated foods is very expensive - like this one on Amazon - $37.34 for 1Lb 13 oz of dehydrated hamburger. [link to www.amazon.com]

That's crazy!

There are several models of dehydrators on the market, and yes, there is some out of pocket at the start, but making your own dehydrated food at home is so much cheaper! Even if you opt for a smaller unit, the unit will pay for itself in no time by providing your family with a sustainable stock of food with a long shelf life.

I have a Nesco - my only complaint is that there is no timer, but the unit functions well and comes with 8 trays.

The Excalibur unit is more expensive, but has a timer and a square surface area.

Once you dehydrate your food, then you can oven can and make meals in a jar! Just add boiling water.
