For gold to get to the 1980 high, we'd have to reach north of $2500. These aren't my numbers. Gold reached $887+ in 1980. Go ahead and check for yourself. In 1869 (same situation - gold standard suspended) gold reached $163. For buying power $163 equals well over $10,000 in todays money.
