Quoting: ANHEDONIC If your 'bug out location' is your basement - you might be a prepless prepper. My bug out location is the basement under my basement. but I am not a prepper, I am a survivalist.. Prepper sounds so gay, did discovery channel start this? Haha, yeah i don't like the sound of it either, some recently manufactured terminology to categorize the newest weirdos of society. But the title does sound funny, and works as a good base for jeff foxworthy-esque jokes This is all a joke!! |

Quoting: Liquid_Pestilence The first thing you should buy is a good survival book and read it front to back, that will give you a good understanding of the basics of surviving whatever doom comes your way. the SAS survival handbook is my favorite. then buy food, because the fist thing your not going to be able to get in a big disaster is food. I'd add that it is important to learn about the local food sources available to you. Many plants and trees which you may not have ever noticed can keep you alive for a long time (Fukushima contaminated notwithstanding, not much we can do about that). Seek out the local lore, talk to old folks and visit the library. |

My situation is pretty nuts in terms of handling collapse. I live on oahu, probably a 45 minute walk or 10 minute drive from the nearest valley. There are at least 1 million people living on this tiny island. And we are absolutely dependent upon boats and planes coming in daily to feed so much people in such a small space. If the boats and planes stopped coming I'd be scared to see how we'd manage here. The poster above mentioned not bothering with the woods cause of all the people tryin ta be badasses/rambos and I have to agree. It will surely be interesting if/when it all goes down. This is all a joke!! |

Throw sand in their eyes, coins, stones anything you have in your pocket it'll blind/distract them for a few seconds. - A form of Karate that I practiced had moves designed to be used with a wooden ore, one of them was flicking sand into opponents face with the ore A long-bladed Panga machete will do good against a knife, because you have the distance advantage. Even a long stick will do a lot more when faced against someone with a small knife. |

I've trained for awhile in stand-up styles (muay-thai, and boxing) but just for fun, just to know that i'm capable of defending myself or people in need. I don't get myself in fights ever. Zero ground/grappling training though, as i wasn't training for a mad max style apocalyptic scenario in which i'd have to fight and kill many men just to get my fair piece Got a bowstaff in the corner in case of zombie style apocalypse [i figure it's good cos it won't produce splashes of blood which would lead to infection in this scenario] This is all a joke!! |

Are you ready to die? Even of the people that are "prepped" most won't be able to survive what (may be) coming. 1st scenario: World War III, and or civil war here in the states 2nd scenario: Full devaluing of our currency, hyper inflation, food riots 3rd scenario: Comet ISON delivers a host of incurable diseases to earth by way of its dusty tail, or causes unexpected and catastrophic seismic events 4th scenario: None of 1 through 3 happen, but we all die of cancer from fukushima in 10 years 5th scenario: All this shit happens in one big fucked up mess 6th scenario: Woops, who could forget, SUN DOOOOOM!! You missed my current evens favourite doom - pole reversal. I started thinking about prepping to survive the tsunami that will probably wash over the UK, but then I convinced myself the pole shift will mess with the magnetosphere and cause Sun doom at the same time. So my prep is a box of Diazepam and a hope that it's quick. |

Shitty lil laptop can't play videos or music, may as well get my money's worth for the internet connection huh? In this scenario my prep kit has 2 joints for me and a baggie of kitty treats for mah 2 cats, hell i might even throw a joint in there for them This is all a joke!! |

Got a caravan-trailer in my front yard to tow and leave the city, but where can we go? Europe is significantly smaller than the US - and we're here with 600 million, so the chances to escape to somewhere quiet are pretty slim... unless your house is destroyed just stay home, the resources you have there already will come in very handy and if major doom hits, the roads will be gridlocked and the woods will be full of crazy fuckers thinking there Rambo out for blood. Your best bet is to just lay low in your house.. I consider us being lucky, living in a free standing house with a full 8ft fence - guess we'll be safe for a while. And indeed, the recources at home will come in handy. We got a wood burner for the cold days, and I guess we can stock up on candles. The easiest would be to get a 200 gallon water barrel, connected up to the gutter. Leaves the food... |

How's the sense of community, do all your neighbors know eachother? Either way, you're off to a decent start i think This is all a joke!! |

Last year my wife did her shopping at the local grocery store while it got robbed, that was rather shocking. Our neighbor is 82 and has copd, so he could do with some help. The other is a young family, we can definitely join forces with them. I think we'll invite some good friends to live with us too - got plenty of space and it would make our chances stronger... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 61274960 United States 10/14/2014 10:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Glad to read I'm not the only one who's aware, but not prepared. Got plans enough, but the lack of money is indeed what's holding me back. Quoting: Yddap If we take a $100 budget, what would you buy? A weapon? Food? Water purifier? I would buy all 3. for a hundred bucks you should spend: 80 of it on white rice, will keep you alive for a few months or more of the real doom. for 5 bucks you could grab a gallon of bleach. A few drops will purify any decent water source and bleach has many other uses. I would spend the rest on a machete, they make a great weapon and serve many other uses also. As long as you can get to a stream or an outside water source near where you live the bleach will be fine and i would spend most of your first preps on food. weapons can be anything, use what you have handy. ^^ THIS. I was about to get 40 lbs of rice, 3 containers of bleach, toilet papers, 10 gallons of water (which is obviously not enough but better than nothing) tons of canned fruits and veggies, and some extra soaps, medicines, and masks and gloves for less than $80. We're in no way prepared for an all out end of the world thing, but say we have to shelter in place for a while, I think we'll be okay. And I will just keep buying more of everything we may need for as long as I can until we need it. |
