This is not true, unfortunately. This is what happened. Quoting: Éireann They cheated. When the 111th Congress went back into session after the summer holiday in 2009, the House went to work on it's part of the ACHA bill - HR 3962. The Senate wanted to start working on its own provisions for the bill, but since any laws that deal with a tax must first start in the House, the Senate used H.R. 3590, a bill regarding housing tax breaks for service members. The Senate took up this bill since it was first passed by the House as a revenue-related modification to the Internal Revenue Code. The bill was then used as the Senate's vehicle for their health care reform proposal, completely revising the content of the bill. So it did originate in the House, just not the provision for the Individual Mandate from what I can gather. It's such a fuck up and a slight of hand it's hard as hell for me to track down exactly which bill did what - where. So that's how we ended up with a Senate Bill and a House Bill comprising the Affordable Health Care Act. It's made up of the following two bills. Senate (HR 3590) - The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. [link to www.gpo.gov] and House (HR 3692)- The Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 30, 2010. Now if this doesn't piss you off to the point of being done with the whole lot of them up there, I don't know what it's going to take to get people to do something. If you haven't seen the movie "Good" with Viggo Mortensen, I recommend it. Great thread!! This government is so totally out of control. I keep hearing that this damned obamacare "is the law of the land and can not be changed". Reallly well seems to me that there were a lot of things that were the "law of the land" and were eventually "changed". Prohibition springs to mind and we all know how that turned out... Damn it where is the opposition to these useless bustards in congress destroying our country?????? What does Obama and company have on them that keeps the majority of them silent? ^^^^you obviously haven't seen or figured out that the lot of them were 'placed' there..including the so-called Tea Party--you need to realize most are 'actors' and are playing their part to keep power and money in the hands of a collective few- the very same people who started communism and nazism etc...these people don't espouse those views at all(say for instance Donald Trump or even Pelosi) THEY JUST MAKE SURE ALL OF US DO THEREFORE THE DIVISION AND CONQUERING- eventually everything will balance out after millions die- no worries just hope you and yours aren't part of it like the jews in Germany, the pollocks, the russians, the chinese, the Native Americans etc. |

Let me tell you, I am absolutely for a National Health Care plan. The USA has the most expensive health care in the world per person, and almost half the population has no access to it That said. I oppose this bill. It is the most expensive, non workable system I have ever seen. It was a complete sellout to the private FOR PROFIT health care companies already out there. Instead of making a single payer, government run plan. ( such as expanding Medicaid) they are FORCING the people to pay billionaires more money for their plans ,that do nothing but pad their pockets. Éireann, this is a very well written summary of the actions taken by our elected representatives and president to create the monstrosity now commonly referred to as "Obamacare". It is important for readers to grasp the concept that no legislation is drafted, passed and signed into law unless it benefits either the government or the special interest groups who provide dollars to the members of congress, the senate or president for election campaign funding. It is a sad state of affairs that virtually no legislation is created with the sole intent of benefiting the populace at large. The affordable care act is a massive give away to the insurance industry. Forced compliance on the part of the masses and the ability to limit claims and benefits paid out to the insured; which results in ever increasing profits for the insurers. It's also an effective method to legally kill off the baby boomer generation, by denying medical treatment; since that group poses the largest threat to government solvency via social security and medicare payouts. It is sickening. All readers should remember that when you or your loved ones reach retirement age; if you are consuming benefits and not paying into the system via taxes, the government wants you to die as soon as possible. It is a sad state of affairs that virtually no legislation is created with the sole intent of benefiting the the populace at large. Tesla Why aren't people like you in office? You're so smart and so aware. You understand and can see the bigger picture. Benjamin Franklin was right when he said in his address to the Constitutional Convention in 1787 when he warned of the dangers of a salaried bureaucracy: "... And of what kind are the men that will strive for this profitable preeminence, through all the bustle of cabal, the heat of contention, the infinite mutual abuse of parties, tearing to pieces the best of characters? It will not be the wise and moderate, the lovers of peace and good order, the men fittest for the trust. It will be the bold and the violent, the men of strong passions and indefatigable activity in their selfish pursuits. These will thrust themselves into your government and be your rulers. ..." Thanks for your kind comments Éireann. I feel the same way about you. This particular post you authored is timely and well crafted. In writing any text it is considered appropriate to capitalize the words congress, senate, president or government. I intentionally did not do so as none of those entities are worthy of that propriety. I am always fascinated to read quotes from one of our Founding Fathers such as Benjamin Franklin. His point is well taken and applies to the current batch of narcissistic jackals who pretend to be our elected representatives. You are also correct about "R" or "D", this is merely an illusion created to confuse the average low information voter. 5 stars for you! User ID: 8361466 United States 08/17/2013 12:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Obamacare is the worst bill I have ever seen. Quoting: Sivaro Let me tell you, I am absolutely for a National Health Care plan. Once again, more money must come out of the common man/taxpayer to continue to fund the Oligarchs. Americans as usual, get screwed. What a joke. You are correct about this bill being one of the worst. You are wrong about half of the population not having access, it is closer to 15%. Single payer? medicare? currently Medicare faces an unfunded liability of $38.6 trillion. How, exactly is that any better? Why is healthcare so expensive? One reason is the AMA setting prices and outlining procedures and treatments; the net result of this is no true competition among providers which is why it was formed by Rockefeller et al. The idea of national healthcare is a utopian dream that can never be realized. The free market can and would fix most if not all the problems with the healthcare system if it were allowed to function. You are also correct about the citizens being screwed... All of Europe and Canada, New Zealand and Australians would disagree. They have had National healthcare for decades upon decades. It is cheaper on the taxpayers than what the USA has, and EVERYONE has access to it. Not a utopian dream, its a reality and has been for a long time.. We should have used some of the best examples of these systems and blended them to make the best possible National Health Care the world has seen. But...Nope.. Just a sell out to the Wealthy Private for profit owners. |
