dude, quit your bitching..sounds like I'm paying for it anyway not you. If you don't like it then go get a job flipping burgers. Sounds like I have to pay your water bill and mine. What chaps my ass is people like yourself that complain about how they are disabled and can't work but yet are competent enough to hack out a lengthy dissertation about their problems on a computer. If you can do that, then you can do other work on your computer to help you get off of tax payer support. Now man up and do what you have to to not be a burden on society.

I'm not some 21 year old with 10 kids all on welfare. I worked for 30 plus years so keep your anger for those that get without giving. I also work from home. It's not much, but it's getting better. If you'd actually read my post you would see that the majority of the people who live here are elderly. It is them I am concerned about. I do understand the stigma associated with those who receive any kind of public assistance, but not everyone who does fits the stereotype. The lady who lives next door to me is a retired nurse. She is 68 years old and has COPD from years of terrible asthma. She was born with it and she went to college - twice - to become a nurse. She went twice because technology changed and she wanted her degree to reflect her up-to-date knowledge of nursing. Get facts about people before you spout off. I hope you never find yourself in this situation. Your arrogance is so typical.

So you worked for over 30 years and have absolutely nothing to show for it i.e. no house of your own and only get less than $700 for disability?? You must have had a really shitty job then. I've only been working roughly 12 years and right now I can look at my social security statement online that details how much money I would get per month if I was disabled, how much my wife would get if I died and also how much I will get if I make it to retirement. Roughly 6-7 years of working for me was shitty jobs held during HS and College where I didn't make much also. The other 5-6 years are years I worked a good job with decent income and my most recent statement I just looked at says that if I were to become disabled right now my benefit payment would be $1814 per month for just myself alone. Anyone interested in checking this out can check your own info here. [link to www.socialsecurity.gov]

I lost everything to a medical bankruptcy. I don't really remember much about filing for disability. A case worker handled all of that and I just sort of nodded. My parents want me to go see a disability lawyer, but I'm like - why? The actual amount is 804, but they deduct 105 for my Medicare premium which leaves 699. I pay all of my Dr co-pays and whatnot. It's not all that bad really. After losing all of my material stuff and my savings and having to live without it for so long, you'd be surprised at just how little you really need.

I didn't get a really good paying job until 1994. I worked mostly for colleges and companies who needed research analysts and the pay wasn't that great. The work was awesome, though. I worked on some really interesting projects so the money kind of came second to the opportunity to learn.
