Precession Cycle, five pointed star, binary star system
A binary star system?

Philip Coppens

Cruttenden’s Lost Star of Myth and Time argues that our solar system is part of a binary star system. His material is reinterpreted with the material of The Canopus Revelation, with some intriguing possibilities as an outcome.

In Lost Star of Myth and Time (2006), Walter Cruttenden argues that our mythological records indicate that our solar system is part of a binary star system. This would mean that our sun has a “companion” star somewhere out there. Cruttenden’s quest in origin relies on The Holy Science, by Swami Sri Yukteswar, written in 1894. Yukteswar outlines his belief in a cyclical history of the world based on the precession of the equinoxes.

This period of time is found in many cultures and is at the origin of many myths. The first such observations were highlighted in Hamlet’s Mill, by Giorgio De Santillana and Hertha Von Dechend. In more recent years, Florence and Kenneth Wood have shown, in Homer’s Secret Iliad (1999), that the cycle of precession also is at the origin of the Iliad and that the main fights are the waxing and waning of the constellations.

In short, our ancient forefathers were extremely intrigued by the precession of the equinoxes, which science states is due to the Earth’s wobble, which has a periodicity of approx. 25,920 years. For Cruttenden, precession is more: “I read that the Great cycle of ages, and the phenomenon of precession itself, was supposed to be the result of our Sun revolving around a ‘dual star’. In modern terms this would mean that our Sun is part of a binary system, gravitationally linked to another star.”

In my research, resulting partly in The Canopus Revelation, I refer to the Great Year and Perfect Year, but did not draw any firm conclusions, for a number of reasons. One of these was that the Great Year and Perfect Year are not necessarily the same, that the Great Year does not necessarily have to be the precession of the equinoxes, and that in fact the Perfect Year seems to suit this cycle better. I will repeat these observations shortly.
Also, I personally felt that it was somewhat bizarre that ancient cultures, as they apparently knew of the precessional cycle, placed so much weight on what is, science tells us, nothing more than a wobble of the Earth. Though it is great to know, it is not of any major importance to become the cornerstone of so many myths. The Earth wobbles, so what? Though it means that constellations would cyclically appear and disappear, the myths knew they would return.

In Cruttenden’s framework, the “precession cycle” is however not the duration of the wobble of the Earth, but the time it takes for our sun to pass through an area of space, on its course around the core of this binary star system. Cruttenden outlines many “errors” in current thinking about the precession of the equinoxes, which I will not repeat here. I will only point out that he argues that there are many anomalies in the duration of this cycle, whereby every few years, new components are added to the equation, so that the equation continues to correspond to the visible – real – cycle of precession. But, in short, Cruttenden argues that science is now engaged in self-endorsing a theory that has obviously been falsified many times over.

Cruttenden argues that the solar system is revolving in a vast 24,000-year cycle around a companion star. “As it does, the Earth is carried through a magnetic or electromagnetic (EM) field of another star. […] At times in this cycle human development and consciousness are positively affected, achieving an almost enlightened state; at other times they are in decline, growing dense and barbaric – but inevitably awakening again with the next arc of celestial motion.” This is therefore linked with the various myths, which speak of a past “Golden Age”, and the prediction that such an age will recur in the future.

If we are part of a binary system, the orbit of the solar system around the core would be – most likely – an oval, whereby the solar system – and our Earth – would periodically find itself closer or farther from this core. Cruttenden argues that the distance from this core and the path of the solar system will move us through different electromagnetic fields, resulting in different “ages”, cycles – or as some cultures call it, “suns”. In short, Cruttenden’s theory provides a logical framework which neatly incorporates the beliefs of many ancient civilisations, which spoke of recurring cycles of times, rather than the linear process of cultural development which is in scientific vogue today – and which Cruttenden demolishes in his book.

Observation: we should note that even if Cruttenden in the end may prove to be wrong, that in itself does not invalidate the possibility that some ancient cultures believed we were part of such a binary system. For a culture that discovers that the moon revolves around the earth, the earth around the sun, the question of whether the sun revolves around something else should be deemed to be completely logical. And as we begin to understand that ancient cultures did possess a heliocentric view and that this knowledge was only lost in certain parts of the world between ca. 300-1500 AD, the binary star hypothesis has great validity.

Cruttenden goes in search of a sister star for our sun, and a “centre” around which both these stars revolve. He promotes several possibilities, with a specific emphasis towards Sirius as our sun’s sister, and a (small) possibility that Sirius B could be the centre of the system – though he himself considers it more likely that a black hole elswehere, as yet undiscovered, would be the area around which we circulate.

In The Canopus Revelation, I highlighted material about how Canopus and Sirius indicated the depth of the Abyss, and that the description of this Abyss was using the same words modern astrophysicists used to describe a black hole. I also linked this with the great cycles of time, namely the Great and Perfect Year. In the section “Sirius and the Great Year”, I quote from the work of Robert Briggs, who described both Sirius and Canopus as “They control time – time does not control them.” This suggests that both stars had some specific importance for the ancient Egyptians that exceeded the other stars, whereby the two stars were “timekeepers”, i.e. control the calendar.

Ancient Egyptians and the Constellations: Part 10 (see links)
The reason the five-pointed star was considered "sacred" was because it was a symbol which encoded the Secret of Precession. The number of degrees around the centre-point of the star (360) divided by the number of arms of the star (5) renders the number seventy-two ... which is significant in terms of astronomy. (See Part 4) Seventy-two is the number of years that it takes for the sky bodies to appear to move through one degree of their cycle.

When the seventy-two years are multiplied by the three hundred and sixty degrees of the complete cycle, we discover that it takes is 25,920 years for each heavenly cycle to be completed … at which time the process starts all over again. This is the cycle referred to as Precession.

Triple Tau: Gates
or Sacred Opening Triple Tau: The
Temple of Jerusalem
The Double and Triple Tau represent the plural form of Tau. Visually, when the Taus are joined together horizontally, they represent a temple, as in the hieroglyph between the Taurus Bulls' heads in the chiefs on each side of the Nermer Plate. The vertical trunks of the Taus represent the columns of the Temple. In the Osiris Legend, Osiris was encased in a tree trunk, which was later utilized as a pillar. The pillar of a temple therefore represents Osiris … who has already been evidenced as the Axis Munde in the Djed Pillar; the Pillar of Stability. (See Part 4 and Part 6) Since a Tau is a "sacred gateway, opening or portal", and multiple Taus form a Temple, it follows that a Temple is a gateway, opening or portal: a portal to the Netherworld through which the Sun rises at the Dawn of a New Age of the Zodiac.

The Triple Tau represents the Temple of Jerusalem. Another name for the Temple of Jerusalem is "Templum Hierosolma", which translates as "Temple on a Sacred Mound". Since a Tau represents a Gateway, opening or portal then the Temple of Jerusalem follows suit … complete with Osirian Pillars! It is through this portal that the Sun rises at the Dawn of a New Age of the Zodiac.
As discussed earlier in Part 7, the Great Pyramid is also built on a Sacred Mound and, like the Osirian Pillar, it represents the Axis Munde. The Temple of Jerusalem as the Triple Tau, secured within the triangle of the Great Pyramid, is displayed on the Collar pictured below. The Great Pyramid and the Temple of Jerusalem are symbolic of the Sacred Summit, the Axis Munde, and the concept of Precession.

The Collar displaying the Triple Tau, which represents
the Temple of Jerusalem, within the Great Pyramid.
Both are examples of the Sacred Summit "Templum Hierosolma"
… encoding the Secret of Precession.

By investigating the Nermer Plate, the origin, meaning and purpose of ancient stone Taus and Henges in Britain and Europe has become clear. They originated in remote Ancient Egypt as Taus and they represent Temples, which are gateways for the Sun at the Dawn of a New Age of the Zodiac. Their purpose is to commemorate the Dawn of the Ages of the Zodiac, and in some cases track and predict the Dawn of the next Age of the Zodiac.

The Celestial Sphinx, Hu
The columns in Ancient Egyptian Temples were also stone representations of the Papyrus plant growing out of the Sacred Mound. On the Nermer Plate the papyrus is growing out of the back of the Celestial Sphinx, Hu, the Ancient Egyptian God of Creation who dates back to 14,000 BCE. (See Part 1 and Part 2)

(The computer software I used to access this skychart is:
Haney, M.A. Skyglobe 3.5
A Shareware Product of KlassM Software, 1992) The Celestial Sphinx,
Hu.

In celebration of their Dreamtime, the remote Ancient Egyptians had exactly reproduced their Celestial Sphinx, Hu, at Giza in readiness for the July 3rd and 4th 14000 BCE Festival. (See Part 2) Prophetically the Fall of Hu heralded the decline of the remote Ancient Egyptians and their entry into the Dark Ages. During this time only the intellectual elite would have been allowed to be initiated into, and share, secrets of such magnitude … The Secret of Hu as the Giver of Life in the Beginning and The Secret of Precession.

The Secret of Precession was guarded well and passed down through the millennia. It is a Secret which is applicable to all Ages of the Zodiac. However, as Hu slipped further below the horizon due to Precession, he could no longer be considered by his title of "Hu of the Horizon". As a result his Secret of being "Hu, the God of Creation, the Giver of Life in the Beginning", was lost. This Lost Secret was replaced by a Substituted Secret.

During the times of torrential rains and floods in Remote Ancient Egypt, the sandstone hill from which the Sphinx was carved would have been a sacred mound surrounded by water … the Waters of Nun. The mound from which the Sphinx was carved came to be considered as the Sacred Mound referred to in the Ancient Egyptian Creation Myth … symbolizing "Creation" and "The Holy Land". The Floods of the Nile symbolized the Waters of Nun.

By 4468 BCE both the Celestial Sphinx, "Hu of the Horizon", and his terrestrial counterpart the Sphinx at Giza, "Harakhte (Hu) of the Horizon" had come to represent the Sacred Mound rather than Hu, the "Giver of Life in the Beginning". Hu had lost his title, it had been usurped by Osiris. The Substituted Secret of "Osiris as Giver of Life in the Beginning" ensured the total demise of the Lost Secret of "Hu as Giver of Life in the Beginning" … until now.

Re: Precession Cycle, five pointed star, binary star system
Sun has binary partner, may affect the Earth:

Researching archaeological and astronomical data at the unique think tank, the Binary Research Institute, Cruttenden concludes that the movement of the solar system plays a more important role in life than people realize, and he challenges some preconceived notions:

The phenomenon known as the precession of the equinox, fabled as a marker of time by ancient peoples, is not due to a local wobbling of the Earth as modern theory portends, but to the solar system's gentle curve through space.

This movement of the solar system occurs because the Sun has a companion star; both stars orbit a common center of gravity, as is typical of most double star systems. The grand cycle–the time it takes to complete one orbit––is called a "Great Year," a term coined by Plato.

Cruttenden explains the effect on earth with an analogy: "Just as the spinning motion of the earth causes the cycle of day and night, and just as the orbital motion of the earth around the sun causes the cycle of the seasons, so too does the binary motion cause a cycle of rising and falling ages over long periods of time, due to increasing and decreasing electromagnet effects generated by our sun and other nearby stars."

While the findings in Lost Star are controversial, astronomers now agree that most stars are likely part of a binary or multiple star system. Dr. Richard A. Muller, professor of physics at UC Berkeley and research physicist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, is an early proponent of a companion star to our sun; he prefers a 26 million year orbit period. Cruttenden uses 24,000 years and says the change in angular direction can be seen in the precession of the equinox.

Lost Star of Myth and Time expands on the author's award-winning PBS documentary film "The Great Year," narrated by actor James Earl Jones. The book brings intriguing new evidence to the theory of our binary companion star and an age old mystery - the precession of the equinox.

The Osiris Legend and Precession (see links)edited

Ancient Egyptians and the Constellations: Part 4

The Osiris Legend

The legend of Osiris begins with Thoth, who was credited with having introduced all the arts and sciences, including astronomy and hieroglyphs, to the Ancient Egyptians. He was also the spokesman, or messenger, of the gods and the keeper of their records. "Thoth" is actually the Graeco-Roman form of the Egyptian name "Djehuti". Thoth was usually represented as an ibis bird or a baboon; both of which are native to Africa. This is significant because it reflects his ancient African origin. In addition, because he was regarded as the moon god he was sometimes seen represented together with a winged moon. In legend Thoth had played a game of draughts with the moon and won from him a seventy-second part of his light, from which he created an extra five days in the year. Prior to that time there were 360 days in the Ancient Egyptian Calendar.

It was no coincidence that the original number of days in an Ancient Egyptian year was identical to the number of degrees in a circle; i.e. 360. The Thoth legend encodes the knowledge of Precession by the specific reference to the numbers 360 and 72. When the number 72 is multiplied by the extra 5 days in the year gained by Thoth in the game of draughts with the Moon, the result is 360, the number of degrees in a circle.

Finally, when the seventy-two years are multiplied by the three hundred and sixty degrees of the complete cycle, we discover that it takes is 25,920 years for each heavenly cycle to be completed … at which time the process starts all over again. This cycle is referred to as Precession.

Re: Precession Cycle, five pointed star, binary star system
Mayans

The cosmic cross formed by the intersecting Milky Way and plane of the ecliptic was called the Sacred Tree by the Maya. The trunk of the tree, the Axis Mundi, is the Milky Way, and the main branch intersecting the tree is the plane of the ecliptic. Mythically, at sunrise on December 21, 2012, the Sun - our Father - rises to conjoin the center of the Sacred Tree, the World Tree, the Tree of Life..

This rare astronomical event, foretold in the Mayan creation story of the Hero Twins, and calculated empirically by them, will happen for many of us in our lifetime. The Sun has not conjoined the Milky Way and the plane of the ecliptic since some 25,800 years ago, long before the Mayans arrived on the scene and long before their predecessors the Olmecs arrived. What does this mean?

Due to a phenomenon called the precession of the equinoxes, caused by the Earth's wobble that lasts almost 26,000 years, the apparent location of the Winter Solstice sunrise has been ever so slowly moving toward the Galactic Center. Precession may be understood by watching a spinning top. Over many revolutions the top will rise and dip on its axis, not unlike how the Earth does over an extremely long period of time. One complete rise and dip constitutes the cycle of precession.

The Mayans noticed the relative slippage of the positions of stars in the night sky over long periods of observation, indicative of precession, and foretold this great coming attraction. By using an invention called the Long Count, the Mayans fast-forwarded to anchor December 21, 2012 as the end of their Great Cycle and then counted backwards to decide where the calendar would begin. Thus the Great Cycle we are currently in began on August 11, 3114 BCE But there's more.

The Great Cycle, lasting 1,872,000 days and equivalent to 5,125.36 years, is but one fifth of the Great Great Cycle, known scientifically as the Great Year or the Platonic Year - the length of the precession of the equinoxes. To use a metaphor from the modern industrial world, on Winter Solstice CE (Common Era) 2012 it is as if the Giant Odometer of Humanity on Earth hits 100,000 miles and all the cycles big and small turn over to begin anew. The present world age will end and a new world age will begin.

Over a year's time the Sun transits through the twelve houses of the zodiac. Many of us know this by what "Sun sign" is associated with our birthday. Upping the scale to the Platonic Year - the 26,000 year long cycle - we are shifting, astrologically, from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius. The Mayan calendar does not really "end" in 2012, but rather, all the cycles turn over and start again, vibrating to a new era. It is as if humanity and the Earth will graduate in the eyes of the Father Sun and Grandmother Milky Way.

Why should we care about the Mayans today? Is there anything we can learn from them? The trees give us oxygen to breathe and help create the nourishing rains upon which we depend, sustaining life. We are missing these rains in places where the trees have been cut down or burned. Fires begin that nature can no longer extinguish. For the Mayans, trees were intermediaries between the physical and spiritual worlds, and absolutely essential to life. They believed that without the tree man could not survive and that "with the death of the last tree comes the death of the human race."

The ancient carved stones and the stars themselves tell us we are on the brink of a new world age. There is no reason not to take a leap of faith into imagining what may be in store. We may trust that it is time for humanity to awaken into a true partnership with each other, with the Earth, and the Cosmos. By accepting this partnership we may claim our birthright and become Galactic Citizens who care for and sustain the planet, thus sustaining ourselves. This is clearly the challenge of our times. Yet, arriving just in time and on schedule is the Winter Solstice dawn on the day we may remember that we are truly Children of the World.
