From your previous post, the incoming mini solar system has a 90 degree orbit and that explain it is not visible. IT may be actually a planet satellite system rather than sun\dwarf planet system.

The reason earths orbit will increase means that the celestial system will come from bottom to top between earth mars orbit and will try to drag earth but will not be able to take with it. It will however increase the orbit.

When the system passes perihelion and starts going down the other side, it will visit mars between earth mars orbit and hence decrease the mars orbit.
