Re: Question: Are atheists more miserable and unhappy than spiritual people.
highly doubtful. perhaps in some cases with those struggling with their belief and are more agnostics that atheists or those that want there to be a God but cant believe for whatever reason but true set in mind atheists are of the world and obviously don't believe in sin so they live it up satisfying the flesh's every urge and desire. the flesh is selfish and they adhere to the flesh. they take whatever they want at anyones expense. by doing this they are nothing more than animals, theyre weak. it takes real strength to walk and live in the spirit which is what true Christians strive to do, not to say they are perfect either. while it can cause pain, suffering and unhappiness and lonliness, they are supremely content and fulfilled. atheists and those living only for the flesh are never fulfilled no matter how much sin they indulge in. its never enough. they are slaves to their own flesh/sin and don't even realize it. long story short, set in mind true atheists (which are really Satanists, shh don't tell em that one ;) are probably on a superficial level at least, happier because they are in the world, of the world, of the flesh which is of the world. true people of faith walking in spirit go through much more hardship and trial but are content and fully at ease. there is a difference there but its a fine line and hard for some people to distinguish

Re: Question: Are atheists more miserable and unhappy than spiritual people.
I think, no, because till I started to interest me, for what G-d means, I was quite a happy girl!
After starting to search G-d, what is very hard to find him/she/it, I became more unhappy. But after I did find G-d, I was for a while happy again. But after that I was unhappy again, because you cannot keep in a state of enlightnement for the whole life. Because many people even do not understand and the mostly never will understand, waht is your point after an enlightnement, so you feel very alone. So, I would say, when you are atheist, you can be a very happy person!

yeah, But dont you think it might be so that if you are true to your inner belief, you feel better and therefor are more
peaceful regardless if you believe in god or are an atheist?

Re: Question: Are atheists more miserable and unhappy than spiritual people.
Well 'god fearing Christians' may vote has because they're afraid that They may be punished for saying otherwise.... Atheists may be more honest because They have LESS fear of a higher power (atheist vs agnostic is important here). I Was a Christian at one point but believe I have found a better answer, which seems to be the trend with over 140 iq....

Not that I deny gawd, just a book and some paintings don't have carry... Shroud of turin is Kewl tho, especially with recent tests done on it....

You question is posed non representationally... You need to ask how happy ppl are with their current spiritual idea and what it is in order to get an accurate paper figure.... Even then, you're only asking ppl on the internet....

What about those who can't afford it? Or homeless? Or those who dont speak english? Then your results will SUFFER!!!! the problem of many ill done surveys... Poor wording/proper randomization...

Re: Question: Are atheists more miserable and unhappy than spiritual people.
Atheists can be satisfied in their belief. So can religious people. Either type are equally capable of joy or suffering.

For instance, an atheist is spared a terrible fear that can affect religious people; the fear of going to hell. You can't be afraid of going to a place that you believe does not exist.

Believers, on the other hand, can take comfort in their belief that death is not the end, and that God has long-term plans for their eternal destiny. It all depends on how you look at it.

oh wait i had that backwards, agnostic say they don't know about gawd and atheists say there is none... scratch that post
(-_-' )

still, atheists aren't just animals, they have a soul, they just haven't found what to believe in yet.

Also near homonyms are annoying...

Re: Question: Are atheists more miserable and unhappy than spiritual people.
I wouldn't say I'm atheist, agnostic I suppose if you had to label me.

But I'm pretty happy. I don't believe in a deity(nor do I disbelieve) but I also don't believe in "nothing" like most people ASSUME atheists believe in.

But I'm pretty happy, not worrying about eternal damnation and what not.

I also don't HAVE to be nice. I'm just naturally a good person. No need for God to threaten me for me to behave.
