Also the hummingbirds are still here and they don't usually hang around this long. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46874466 Lots of win with the hummingbird comment. There are a ton of those here still too. Trying to bring GLP together. I'm still collecting flags from posters all over the world. Thread: Official "Flags from around the world" thread. (OP) User ID: 8052347 United States 09/16/2013 01:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP, just found this for FYI: Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46906244 Plants are one of the best ways to deter flies. Basil or Rue placed in pots outside the door will do a great job. It is also suggested that marigold will deter flies. Crushed mint has also been known to deter flies. Get some mint and crush it and sprinkle it around problem areas. Containers of essential oils. Get a small container and place a piece of cloth or sponge in it. Soak with an essential oil such as Lavender, Citronella, Eucalyptus or Pennyroyal. Close the lid and store for about a day. This will build up the scent in the container. Then place on tables or eating areas when you are entertaining. Sprays: Mix 1 cup of vinegar with 1 cup of water and add a few drops of any of these essential oils Lavender Citronella Eucalyptus Pennyroyal Wow. Killer info. I have some lavender and eucalyptus oil in the house right now. Trying to bring GLP together. I'm still collecting flags from posters all over the world. Anonymous Coward User ID: 46900610 United States 09/16/2013 01:24 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes. I'm in PA and have had a horrible time with fruit flies/gnats. They seem to be coming from my kitchen sink. I say that because one night I put an inverted bowl over one of the drains in the kitchen sink, and in the morning there was several dozens of them inside the bowl. I've tried everything. This is the first year I've lived in a house on city water. I've had well water for the last 15 years. I can't imagine this is normal. And before anyone says that I'm a pig- I don't put food down my drains, I keep a clean house, the trash can is small and has a lid, and trash gets put outside every night. |

User ID: 42032529 United States 09/16/2013 01:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well flies will always be around. I've only seen 1 Bee this year... 1 friggin bee! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 41777064 Saw a few wasps, a couple hornets. We have had bees up the yin yang here this summer. The heat and humidity had something to do with it I'm sure but the weather has changed in the past few days now and activity has decreased. It was really bad for about a week here as far as bees go. No joy for the flies here this year at least. Aside from the annoyance factor that's probably good news right? No colony collapse in your area. Definitely a good thing. The bees are thriving and have now gone dormant (at least it seems that way) and no flies..... Utopia!! Come to Wisconsin....oh wait. Winter. Government... Someone thought I should have one of those stupid Swiffer mop things. I would never have bought one. I like the plain old mop. Anyway, the liquid that comes in them is nothing but perfume and is full of chemicals to boot. It cleans nothing at all. I think that liquid is so sweet-like that it further attracts the fruit flies. I went back to vinegar and/or a bleach mix for my tile floors. Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world. Whatever feels good to your soul, do that. |
