By Thursday morning, $97,889 (US) in donations had been made.

What a beautiful story. If it's true, I hope he far surpasses the 100K in donations.

It would be nice to see, but either way, the dude is doing better now.

I'm from Boston and my understanding of this homeless man is that he isn't the typical, stereo-type drug addict/alcoholic homeless man. And I tend to believe that because if he was, why wouldn't he be dishonest and keep at least the cash part of what he found? It wasn't all traveler's checks. However, I 100% understand being cynical of it. I was actually speaking to someone earlier tonight about this story and how it's a wonderful story if completely true, but that my mind can't help but to wonder if it maybe isn't so pure. And honestly, that sucks! It sucks to have to think that way based on the reality of a good number of people these days. I'm personally going to do my best to believe that this man is actually one of the good souls left in this world. They do exist, homeless or not, that is actually quite irrelevant. Good souls/human beings do still exist. We're out there. I choose to believe he is one of them and that this story is legit, and I hope I am right. This would be a beautiful example to set for others in this world.

Wow what an awesome story. It would of been hard finding $40,000 and just handing it in not knowing where you were going to get that next meal. If it were me I might not have been able to be so honest, so he deserves everything he gets :)

There are many good people out there. It's just the communities and social bonds are not as strong as before, so they may appear less.

what im less cool about is the guy who began the fund for him. he said that he doesnt see it as a pile of money to just go have a good time with. he hopes this will mean good things for the homeless man

cant answer the last question but if you are homeless i would say youre more likely to spot and find lost property. youve got no where to go, and you hang around public places alot, so it figures?
