Tribute to the Year of The Snake 2013 - Snake Year Energy - How did you fare and what's still to come...
THE YEAR OF THE WATER SNAKE
2013

:tree snake:

Arousing the Sleeping Serpent

“Just as Moses lifted up the flaming serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that all who believe may have eternal life in him.” John 3:14-15

Many may have had Kundalini experiences in the year of the Snake, feel free to discuss...

Deep Emotions and Transformations on the Agenda for Individuals as well as collectively. Snake years are time for powerful rebirth and transformation in all areas of life. Keep shedding your old skin to be reborn! The rebirth is meant in a most spiritual sense as we have been experiencing an increased detachment from the mere material level coming to a much deeper understanding of spirit and its implications. Re: Tribute to the Year of The Snake 2013 - Snake Year Energy - How did you fare and what's still to come...
On the new Moon at the beginning of the current snake year, the planets Mercury, Mars, and Neptune were all in the spiritual Water sign Pisces, a time for mysticism, spirituality, and meditation — perfect for the Water Snake.

The Snake is a spiritual sign of wisdom, so what is of value this year are deep experiences and breakthroughs. Time to shed your old skin with transformation and guidance. Astrology, holistic healing approaches, tarot, and different forms of spiritual cleansing and re-balancing, massage, therapy, acupuncture, feng shui, herbs, and alternative healing are all very helpful to be propelled forward during this Snake year..

During this sensitive year of the Water Snake, rewards are found in the inner world of spirit more than in the outer world of money and material things.

The wise and introspective Water Snake year is time for powerful rebirth and transformation in all areas of your life. Now is the time for introspection, reflection, and deep experiences. It is very fortunate to develop a spiritual practice if you do not already have one.

The pace of life is slow in a Snake year. But that gives us time to recover from the hectic pace of Dragon year 2012, and prepare for the wild ride that will be Horse year 2014.

Snake is a magical creature because it sheds its skin to be reborn. As Snake crawls on the ground with strength and fluidity, she is connected to Earth and to the powers of healing. The venom of this mysterious power animal can cause death. Snake truly embodies many mysteries and has a place of honor in world traditions. In ancient China, Snake was a celestial deity and one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. A very ancient creation story tells of a Chinese Snake goddess who formed the first people from the clay from the banks of the Yellow River. A classic Chinese tale concerns a 1,000 year old Snake who transformed herself into a beautiful maiden and married a scholar. Snake is not a symbol of evil like in the west, but a goddess, heroine, and healer!

Those born in Snake years (1905, 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013) are extremely determined and strive for success. Snakes accomplish goals through careful plans and calculations, like a coiled Snake waiting for the exact time to strike. Snakes follow their desires regardless of circumstances. Yet Snake is enchanting, creative, spiritual, attractive, and talented. Snake possesses both charm and a mysterious quality. Snakes can be very social when they want to be, but can appear cool and aloof at times. A Snake won’t reveal their thoughts to just anyone. If you’re allowed to get close, you’ll discover that Snake is very sensitive, caring, and humorous.
Sensuous Snake correlates to the Western sign Taurus.

The Way of the Snake:

Wisdom, mystery, sensuality.

1905, 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, 2025.

Snake is the sixth sign. During this phase, plants have completed their growth. This turning point brings the outward growth inward, turning vigor and power into wisdom. These characteristics are reflected in people born in the year of the Snake. This sixth earthly branch symbolizes May, the fourth lunar month. May is the time of Taurus, Snake’s western counterpart.

The Chinese Serpent goddess Nu Kua formed the first people from yellow clay from the banks of the Yellow River. This creation myth is one of many Taoist tales starring magical, mysterious Snake. The Snake is associated with goddesses and heroines who assist women in childbirth and bless children with remarkable talents. Snake heroines charmed and helped scholars learn the Confucian classics. Asian cultures respect Snake and honor her feminine yin energy, unlike the West, which associates Snake with cold-blooded evils.

A Chinese classic tale tells of a one-thousand-year-old snake who practiced magic and transformed herself a beautiful woman. Through her charms, she married a scholar, and her life was happy and content. But a Taoist monk pursued her because he knew that she was not human. The monk was an expert at capturing shape-shifting animals who falsely assumed human forms. Wise Snake outwitted him many times before he finally exposed her dual lives.

The year of the Snake is a time of introspection, planning, and seeking answers. People will ponder and think before they act. Good taste and elegance will prevail in fashion, theater, film, and all the arts. Snake wisdom influences contributions in the sciences through new technological inventions and discoveries. But this is not an auspicious year for gambling, investing, or taking any financial risks because the calamities of the previous Dragon year can continue into Snake year. Expect political extremes, scandals, and the exposing of secrets.

More Snake Tales

When the Buddha attained enlightenment the cobra hood of the Nãgaraja Mucilinda manifested, symbolizing the Nagas' establishment of their supernatural serpentine powers of protection in service of the Buddha.

The Indian epic the Mahäbhärata recounts how the serpent Vasuki serves as the rope used to spin the world axis Mount Mandara or Mount Meru, the land mass resting on the back of Vishnu in his reincarnation as the tortoise dwelling in the depths of the Ocean of Milk. It is the churning of this ocean that brings about aspects of the world's creation and the creation of soma, the nectar of immortality and source of the power of the gods.

In Pythagorean symbolism, the snake, forming a circle by placing its tail in its mouth, depicts eternity -- the universe without beginning or end. The form of a snake in a circle is often used to epitomize Cosmic Consciousness, intimating the unity of man's mind with the Universal Intelligence. In this way it continues its legacy as an ancient symbol of wisdom.

The hours between 9 A.M. and 11 A.M. are ruled by the Snake, and people born during these two hours are said to have a Snake ascendant. They will have many of the same characteristics as this sign, be able to establish close ties with the natives of this group and share a lot in common with them.

Karma of people born under the Snake

In China, the Snake (and to an even greater extent, the Dragon) is seen as a karmic sign and those born in its year are said to wear the "horns of destiny;" this means that for them this lifetime represents an accelerated opportunity for learning. Life experiences are very intense as every interaction is a perpetuation of cumbrous past life karma, almost as if they were compressing multiple lifetimes into one reincarnation. The Snake is fated to pay her dues in this lifetime and both consciously and unconsciously seeks to settle scores in everything she does.

Since years are supposed to take on the qualities of their signs as much as people do, then it means that February 10, 2013 to January 30, 2014 will be a financially auspicious period for the world.
The Year of the Snake is a year for taking stock, for introspection and the cleansing of familiar but redundant patterns of disassociation from all living things in preparation for the wholeness, balance and opportunities to come. Since snakes are the symbols of healing and rebirth with a strong connection to the powers of the earth, the time is ideal to release emotional wounds and seek the answers within by developing a personal relationship with the earth during 2013 and into the future. One would do well to remember that still waters run deep and that although the surface may appear calm, there may be dangerous undercurrents below. In general, it is a time in which trickery, fraud, underhanded deeds and political chicanery, both on a national and international level, may be expected. It is a year for the confidence trickster and the con man so caution should be the byword. If love and adultery are desired, now is the time to act. For some it will be a year of sudden changes, of reversals and even disaster. Financial risks of any kind are ill-advised as the calamities of the previous Dragon year can continue into this year as well. The Arts, music, fashion, industry and business are all well-aspected now.

The most beautiful women and powerful men tend to be born under this sign. Some important people born in the Year of the Snake are Mao Tse-Tung, Copernicus, Louis Braille, Charles Darwin, St. Vincent de Paul, Pablo Picasso; Henri Matisse, Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms; Marianne Faithful, Howard Stern, Greta Garbo, Audrey Hepburn, Howard Hughes, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Princess Grace of Monaco, Anna Pavlova, Frank Lloyd Wright, J. Paul Getty, Jean-Paul Satre, Casanova, Queen Astrid, Oprah Winfrey, Gamal Abdel Nasser, Gong Li, Martin Luther King, both Mohandas K. and Indira Gandhi, Andrew Wyeth, Edgar Allan Poe and U.S. Presidents Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Harrison, William H. Taft, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and John F. Kennedy.

The almanac also states how people born under other signs will fare in the year of the Snake. The Rat and the Dog will be fine in general, but the Rat should take care when conducting business in the first half of the year. The Rabbit must stay alert in money matters. The Ox and the Tiger will feel restless and are advised, respectively, to check their tempers and to travel, above all, to avoid inactivity. The Dragon will prosper. Snakes, of course, during their own year, can attempt anything and gain everything. There will be adventures in love for them too. Romances for the Horse in the Year of the Snake should not be taken too seriously. Many exciting things are in store for the Ram and the Monkey. The Rooster will be kept busy, both at work and in the home. The Pig can look forward to a good year for business but a bad one for romance. It is common knowledge among the Chinese that a Snake Year is bad for marriages.
The almanac warns that anyone who gets infected with smallpox or boils during the Year of the Snake will -- as if those afflictions are not bad enough -- have his bad luck doubled.

Rat and Snake

The Rat and the Snake make quite a compatible pair once they can learn to overlook their differences. The Rat may tire of the Snake’s seemingly slow pace and lack of ambition; the Rat is much more active and energetic, on the surface, than the philosophical, intuitive Snake. The Snake, in turn, may tire of the Rat’s quick-witted verbal games, as the Snake likes to think of itself as a deeper thinker than that.
However, despite their differences these two can make quite a duo, especially as lovers — theirs is a truly hot connection and they definitely respond to one another’s charms. The Snake’s intelligence truly appeals to the clever, shrewd Rat, and the Rat’s physical nature appeals to the dangerously attractive Snake. The Snake may have a jealous or possessive nature but if the Snake and the Rat are in love, they won’t find it hard to remain loyal to one another.

[link to www.astrology.com]

The main virtues in the Snake character are intelligence, a philosophical soulfulness, and true loveliness.
If you are fortunate the Snake-born may allow you to get close enough to discover what a sensitive, caring, compassionate and humorous person she truly is. A Snake can be counted on to carry through a project to the end. Her decisions are quick and firm, but they are formed by first impressions, on sympathies and feeling logically assembled in her mind -- by instinct rather than by sheer facts. She will fight and plod for anything she believes in and allow nothing to stand in her way, achieving her goals through hard work, careful plans and calculations. She likes to win and won't surrender power once she attains it; her mind is constantly churning, always anticipating unforeseen contingencies. She is not afraid to take risks, an observant fast learner who has the mental capacity to turn the outcome in her favor. Many Snakes are extraordinarily talented in playing a musical instrument, and love and appreciate music throughout their lives. They have a passion for art as well, and if not actual artists themselves they will collect and invest or otherwise involve themselves in the world of art, antiques and fine books.

Immense pride and a tendency to insist upon having her own way are perhaps the most negative of the Snake qualities. She can be sullenly pensive, secretive and aloof. Although she always has been able to lay her hand on money when she needs it, she can be somewhat stingy when it comes to lending cash to others -- even miserly, particularly in old age. Her sympathy for others often leads her to offer help but it will be in kind rather than in money. When she does do someone a favor there are strings attached and she becomes possessive towards them in an odd way, so think twice before you accept an offer of help from a Snake or you may regret it. While she is not given to wasting her time in idle gossip and always likes to get straight to her point, she is quite capable of lying and will do so whenever she feels she can get away with it. Uncompromising and jealous in her relationships, self-contained and intensely competitive, her keen perceptions make the Snake a formidable enemy. She is a mistress of the human psyche and her ruthlessness when challenged is notorious. Time is of no consequence as for her, revenge is truly a dish best served cold; she can wait years for the opportune moment to strike and is capable of harboring grudges for life.

Rarely openly aggressive, she is much more likely to be icily hostile while secretly plotting her next move. Be forewarned that the more lethal Snakes will like to crush their enemies totally. Their incredible patience, vindictiveness, focus and swiftness ensure success when destroying a target, so take care that the target is not you!

Hypnotic and charismatic, the self-assured Snake male is a pillar of strength with incredible presence of mind and a profound sense of responsibility. His tastes are classical and refined, he dresses well (almost fastidiously) and is dashing with an air of being slightly dangerous, all the while exhibiting wit and impeccable manners. As if his rakish nature and handsome good looks weren't enough to ensure success in the pursuit of romance, his sense of humor is unexcelled which is why so many women fall head-over-heels in love with him and are overcome by his advances. Influential and aware of it, he is disarmingly seductive and all-consuming in his ardor but once he's made the initial conquest he does not work very hard on maintaining the relationship. Since he is naturally flirtatious, those enamored with the Snake had better keep a weather eye on him. Financially successful and with a great sense for business, he is a private person and a poor loser who will suffer no aspersions to his reputation so don't cross him. His delicate ego does not handle rejection or defeat well at all. The mesmerizing, sultry Snake female is the archetypal femme fatale, unconcerned with women's rights since she feels herself superior to men in every way. Although it is not unusual for many to fall in love with her at first sight, she herself is extremely choosy when it comes to selecting a partner -- only the very best will do for discriminating Lady Snake. Her mystique and cool ambivalence keep legions of suitors on their toes and guessing, although you can bet she most likely will gravitate to the richest and most influential person she can find. She is popular among her female friends as well for her discretion and good advice, and is perceptive, compassionate and sympathetic. She never forgets if someone does her a favor and will be certain to show her gratitude at the right time. However, that works both ways as she never overlooks a slight; you can be sure she will find the perfect moment to retaliate with a vengeance. Whether female or male, Snakes can be quite attractive and like to project the best image of themselves that they can. Renowned for their flawless complexions and deeply passionate lovemaking, they are reputed to have roving eyes (in particular the males) but this may be a false impression due more to their sensual approach to life than to actual extracurricular liaisons.
Snake people tend to internalize their anxieties and when under stress their digestive systems bear the brunt of the tension. Because of this they can be prone to duodenal ulcers, nervous exhaustion or, in extreme cases, nervous breakdown. Their introspective nature and skeptical minds may cause them to experience bouts of depression, alienation or loneliness so it is imperative that they reach out, communicate with others and ask for help. All too frequently it is only a fear of failure, rejection or ridicule that prevents them from gaining the comfort and cooperation they need.

Re: Tribute to the Year of The Snake 2013 - Snake Year Energy - How did you fare and what's still to come...
:snake goddess:

The Snake Goddess.

While the statuette's true function is somewhat unclear, her exposed and amplified breasts suggest that she is probably some sort of fertility figure. The figurines may illustrate the fashion of dress of Minoan (Greek) women, however, it is also possible that bared breasts represented a sign of mourning. Homer gives a literary description of this kind of mourning, and this was also observed by Herodotus among Egyptian women.
The serpent is often symbolically associated with the renewal of life because it sheds its skin periodically. A similar belief existed in the ancient Mesopotamians and Semites, and appears also in the Hindu mythology. The Pelasgian myth of creation refers to snakes as the reborn dead. However, Nilsson noticed that in the Minoan religion the snake was the protector of the house, as it later appears also in Greek religion. Among the Greek Dionysiac cult it signified wisdom and was the symbol of fertility.

The Phoenician Astarte

Barry Powell suggested that the snake goddess reduced in legend into a folklore heroine was Ariadne (utterly pure or the very holy one), who is often depicted surrounded by Maenads and satyrs. Some scholars relate the snake goddess with the Phoenician Astarte (virgin daughter). She was the goddess of fertility and sexuality and her worship was connected with orgiastic cult. Her temples were decorated with serpentine motifs. In a relative Greek myth Europa, who is sometimes identified with Astarte in ancient sources, was a Phoenician princess who Zeus abducted and carried to Crete. Evans tentatively linked the snake goddess with the Egyptian snake goddess Wadjet but did not pursue this connection. Statuettes similar to the "snake goddess" identified as priest of Wadjud and magician were found in Egypt.

Dog shouldn't do too badly during a snake year. You have another four months to go. Maybe you need to align yourself more with the snake year energies. See descriptions of snake year attributes above. The snake is a slow mover.

Re: Tribute to the Year of The Snake 2013 - Snake Year Energy - How did you fare and what's still to come...
Cosmic Energy (The Serpent)

Some words of caution if your Kundalini has been rising.

The serpent is primordial force or energy, fire and water being the principle two of creation, with air and earth following them. Because it shed it’s skin, it is seen as a symbol of regeneration and renewal. It is also dangerous, deadly, can be found often in ‘guardian’ roles near springs or water as well as deserts. When controlled or mastered, it is seen as mastering a powerful and deadly, yet regenerating force, basic to creation, or possibly from which creation came.

The Secret Fire is directly linked to the sexual, (i.e. principle and most basic creative forces) in humanity. Here, the relationship between ‘bliss’ ‘ecstasy’ and the erotic impulse can be clearly seen and experienced. The development of a host of ‘sexual yogas’ and ‘sex magic(k)’ practices bear this out to some degree. However, it is the sexual desire in humanity that acts as its basic drive and evolutionary force. It also suggests that the ability and need for mystical experience is biologically rooted. Only by ignoring the most basic of pleasures, sex, can we ignore the drive to ecstatic union on some level. The ‘little death’ or petite morte, is a forerunner of the ‘big death’ as we let go and experience divine oblivion.

Sexual power, linked to our innate drive for mystical experiences, is also linked to human evolution, and some kind of predetermined point or state to which we are being directed.

This is a significant point, in that almost all of modern Western societies psychological illnesses are focused around sexual repression and obsession.

If the Secret Fire flows freely, or with greater strength than before, without the proper purification of the Vital Energy of the physical body, it is possible that it will result in what appears to be extreme physical, but more likely psychological, illness in the form of schizophrenia and psychosis, instead of psychic gifts, genius, and either transpersonal states, or simply altered states of consciousness.

Wilhelm Reich, the father of Orgon Therapy states that the basis for all mental-emotional disturbances are anchored in the physical body, and that these anchors can be released through breathing techniques, somewhat similar to pranayamana. Since the body is the “Salt” of alchemy, and partially composed of accessible unconscious elements through its “Watery Element” all of our emotional and physical experiences become indelibly marked, associated, or stored in our physical body. If these blocks, or energy concentrations of emotional and physical trauma (composed of Vital Energy) are not removed before the Secret Fire begins to flow more intensely, the so-called negative side effects of ‘Kundalini phenomena’ will appear.

Abuse of drugs, alcohol, and sexual extremes only worsen the condition in that they inadvertently release the Secret Fire by weakening the physical body and its link to the astral, thereby damaging the etheric substructure, and create energy blocks in the end rather than diminish them, when the mind and body attempt to make repairs.

A nervous system damaged by substance abuse makes a tricky vehicle for the clear, clean, and powerful expression of the Secret Fire. It is through our nervous system that we engage both the physical world, as well as out interior world. It links the body with the Mind-Intellect as well as instinctual, creative, and sensual urges. If it is damaged, our ability to relate fully, creatively, and productively to these psyhco-physical-spiritual parts of our self becomes endangered. If it is damaged, then our most direct and important link to our Holy Guardian Angel, and means of releasing the Secret Fire safely is threatened in this incarnation.

Freeing the Dragon

How long it takes to un-block our psychic anatomy for a more complete and harmonious functioning of the Secret Fire is unclear. It is stated that even the most advanced yogis require a minimum of three years of special practice for this to occur. Since that kind of training takes place under specialized and supervised conditions, it can be assumed that modern Western life requires more time, as well as self-reflection and referral, since the average Western occultist, be they kabbalist, alchemist, or both, will spend the majority of their time working alone or at best in occasional small groups.

Certain schools of yoga as well as kabbalah and Sufi practices view the heart as the center of the individual universe, and the most important of all psychic centers. By opening the heart, we gain access to our Interior Master, or Holy Guardian Angel (messenger), characterized by a strong manifestation of intuition. This is the final resting place for the Serpents Tongue after its ascent over the skull, and as Boehme and Hermetic imagery have shown, the “Heart girt with a serpent” is the ideal to which mystics aspire.

Re: Tribute to the Year of The Snake 2013 - Snake Year Energy - How did you fare and what's still to come...
Paradigm shift in the year of the snake.
The old ways end this year.

This channeler claims September 21 was the official date when the old paradigm ended. This is exactly 9 months after the famous date of December 21, 2012, passed by without much happening for most of us. "Cosmic Awareness" says that it takes some time for an old paradigm to die completely and a new one to kick in.

The most remarkable property of these new energies is "instant karma". In other words: when you focus on something, it will manifest much faster than before. It's important to realise this, so that you don't spend your time on fear mongering news and such. Visualise positive and beautiful things!

Everything has indeed changed, but it may take a while for the individual to fully comprehend and understand this and thus implement it. It will take civilization, the collective human consciousness, a time to realize these changes. It is for this reason that many who are advanced in their understanding and have offered themselves to be of service during this crucial time, will be of critical importance. Many who have sought the higher levels of consciousness and have grounded them strongly within their own being will find themselves in situations where more are finally paying attention to them, to what they have spoken, for there will be that shift that does occur even if at an unconscious level in the collective consciousness of humanity.

This leads this Awareness to the second manifestation of the new order of belief and projection: this being on the collective level. That the new paradigm will be such that the collective will not immediately understand or realize what is now possible, what is available, and that they will continue to live as they have always lived, entertain the same thoughts and the beliefs that they have always entertained; and that this is a time of transition.

That karma is such that many come onto this planet with the soul purpose of dealing with the soul’s karma, and the individual will have experiences of the karma throughout their life, moving towards the elimination of karma and the introduction of Dharma. Dharma is that state of a blank slate upon which anything can be written, whereas a karmic state is a state where the slate is written upon already and one must go through the checklist of karma and deal with the karma, eliminating the karma so that the blank slate of Dharma can be created. Once one has dealt with the karma of the soul, as so many have taken on in this life, a state between karma and Dharma could be understood to exist. When one is used to doing something a certain way and suddenly is not obligated to do it this way any longer, it does not always follow that one has the realization that this is so. Therefore many who are in a karma-free state will continue to act as if karma still exists in their life and thus, even though they are no longer governed by karma, their actions, their way of thinking and responding may be of the old nature until they recognize this is no longer needed and it is no longer the case.

Therefore, even though September 21st will mark the ending of the old paradigm, it may take the collective some time to fully understand and appreciate the new status of belief and consciousness. In this period of time many will still look to the external to prove what they wish to prove or to verify what they believe or think. It may indeed be time indeed for this to fully be understood: that as long as one puts one's attentions toward something, even if they are in a Dharmic state, they will still experience it as if karma was still in play or that the old paradigm still had power.
