1. Only certain parts of the government shut down. Like the guys that test to see which ketchup is actually the thickest. Once the shut down is over, they'll get their back pay. The media makes this out to be worse than it is. It's happened before; it will happen again. Social Security and other benefit checks are pretty much untouchable. If anything were to interrupt those the public would turn on the guys in office and vote everyone out. They want to keep their jobs so those checks will keep coming no matter what.

2. The debt is an important issue, but it isn't as the-sky-is-falling as people (media)think. Not that I have anything against the media, but they have a lot of hours of TV to fill, so they can at times make issues out to be worse than they actually are. Anyway, while the US does have a 16 trillion debt, it also has 200 trillion in assets, so it's not as if we're not going to be able to pay the mortgage. And China isn't going to knock on the door demanding their money. If they were to screw up our financial system who would be around to buy their stuff? It's in their best interest to keep our economy flowing.

3. Politicians are voted in by us. We usually end up picking the guy who is the better liar. We don't want to hear that taxes have to go up and programs cuts to get us more solvent. We want to hear that everything is fine. That's who we vote for.

4. The Tea Party is a bunch of idiots. Sorry , they just are. They have such a obsession with Obamacare. The President, the Supreme Court and the Senate all OKed it. There's no way these people are going to back down to a bunch of TP retards. It would be political suicide.

5. This is America. The greatest country EVER! Are you telling me that we can't come up with a way for everyone to get medical treatment without going into bankruptcy? So people have to have medical insurance. Big deal. Drivers have to have liability insurance. I mean you could not to drive. If Obamacare and government medical programs aren't your cup of tea-leave. Go to a country that doesn't have some kind of universal health care. Maybe Antarctica? Since they aren't actually a country you should be OK there.
