This is not the type of program the federal government should be involved in. Private charities can handle the funding for this type of program without the federal government creating a another government bureaucracy.

Does that mean that states which don't close down WIC are paying with state money what used to be paid by Feds? If so, I am surprised more states aren't closing WIC. RALEIGH, NC (WECT/AP) - The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will not be issuing any more vouchers for clients because of the Federal government program. The state-run program helps to make sure pregnant women and their young children get the nutrition they need for things like infant formula and healthy food. Those who already have vouchers will be able to use them, but people who need to renew their vouchers (which happens every 6 months) or those applying for new ones will have to wait. [link to whiteville.wect.com] Trivia: In Medieval times, a pregnant woman could not be imprisoned for stealing food. That would be very troublesome for convenience stores nowadays.
