A little story.

I was walking in a little town that I had never been to before. I saw a younger girl/woman with a baby in a carrier next to her. She was holding up a sign, but the sign was right in front of her face!

I sat down and asked her if she was ok and she burst into tears. I asked what was wrong and she said, "I'm not a bum!" She said, "I stay in a shelter, but I can't stay there every night."

I asked her why she held the sign of to her face and she said that "people look at her like she was a bum". We talked for a little while and I gave her a little money and a hug and walked on.

I can't heal or feed the world. I don't have much myself, but kindness is really very easy and inexpensive to give.

Actually that is may message! I am NOT saying that all poor people are honest any more than all wealthy people are bad.

I am saying that you may be missing a very good opportunity to learn from those with less than you.

Of course use common sense!!! Of course be smart, BUT kindness does not mean you have to take any risks. Just smile at them, show that they have meaning. Talk to them.

You don't have to invite them home! In fact, I wouldn't!

Just don't overlook diamonds among the rubble.

That's all I am saying here.

Peace

These are God's true "Chosen People". Most work very hard, just scape by trying to make a living and never hurt anyone.

They are the forgotten, the unpopular, the outcasts, the ugly or the old.

They don't promote themselves. They don't brag. They don't talk much and when they do it is very humble and low key.

These people don't cheat others, have honor and respect their peers.

They may be a little dirty at times, may have a few teeth missing, but are as honest as the day is long. These are God's true Chosen People.

These are my heroes...

That is 100% truth OP. I live in the mountains in a rural area and it's all simple living God fearing hard working poor country folks here, best people I've ever known.

Everyone helps eachother, as it should be.

Yes. We can see the world as an ugly, dangerous and frightening place full of mean people and violence. When we do, that is EXACTLY what we will find.

Or, we can see the goodness in people. We can see the world as a place of hope and of amazing adventures. In that case, that is what we will find.

You see, I believe that we truly do manifest our reality as we believe it to be.

I know, few will understand that and will call me naive, but it's the truth...

It is really simple, if they demand your money, then they are not wise and kind beings at all. They are thieves.

Poor people only ask us for a little food and shelter, but we treat them worse than we treat our pets.

While at the same time we honor the politicians that steal us blind.

How does that make sense?

This is a gurrreat thread.

Again, the message reminds me of the movie I mention many times, The Uprising, where they fight the Nazis on behalf of the Jews. The defenders are varied, ones that most people would not think would be involved in this and involved in anything together. It's an awesome movie based upon actual event.

Re: When times get tough and you want to know who to trust, trust the poor, the hard working, the humble, the outcasts, the ugly.
It has only been as I have gotten older and hopefully a little wiser that I have begun to see the madness in our world. Everything is upside down. The thieves are honored, while the weak and the old are treat with disrespect.

I have gone full circle in my life. From a child with a single mother of 3. Then to college. Then to corporate America as a computer programmer for companies like GM, CNN, Carnival Cruise Lines, etc. Then to give it all up and go back to living a more "unacceptable" and "non-desirable" life.

Not because I was forced to, but because the madness around me was too much. I can honestly say that I have never been happier than I am right now and at peace.

But, I no longer have a retirement, medical insurance, life insurance, a home or investments. I live in a little camper van.

But, enough about me. My point is that if you disregard these poor, lonely and sad people as less than human, you are a fool.

Peace and love to all reading this thread.

Thank you.

DON'T BE SO SURE!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47805629

I wondered how long it would take for the haters to show up...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 38874043

OP, it is not hate it is called realism and life experience. I know would be nice and easy for our brains to just apply a simple formula and voila... to know which people you can rely on, but usually it is not so simple. The life is not only black and white, there are innumerable nuances of grey.

So, there are poor people because of their bad habits and not because somebody oppressed them. Or there are uneducated people, who could be also bad. Or there are poor persons that could sell even their mother for a buck. So you cannot draw conclusions so quickly!

This you would know, OP-ie if you would have been around for longer, or if have been, at least to open your eyes!

These are my 2cents and not hating, I'm trying to expand your horizons..
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47805629

Look, I'm no fool. My point is this. Don't reject ANY source of wisdom just because of the color of someone skin, the way they look, where they live or how much money they have.

I will go even farther and say they MOST wisdom will not come from the beautiful, wealthy or "educated" populous. Why? Because they have had to "sell their souls" to get that wealth.

See?

Of course their are bad people EVERYWHERE! That is NOT the point of this post.

Peace
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 38874043

Look OP, my point was not to imply you that you are fool or something. For me, what has been shocked to your statement, was that you make an automatic labeling and categorizing of the people based on their condition, which by the way, WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT!. Someone could even envision an app for the smartphone, when you get closer to a person immediate appear a red dot, bip, bip this is a bad person... or a green dot, this is a trustworthy person, etc

Besides that you said: "Don't reject ANY source of wisdom just because of the color of someone skin, the way they look, where they live or how much money they have." but somehow you are contradicting yourself by stating that the real wisdom and knowledge and purity, etc are to be found only in the camp of those you mention in the title. So, if you want to be truthful to your creed just don't judge only by appearance etc, you should also grant some credence or attention also to those from the other camp: "beautiful, wealthy or "educated" populous". You see my point?

All of those things and categorizations and status, etc are just some adjectives, they are not defining completely and perfectly the human soul. To be honest with you I travelled all over the world and see lots of people and cultures and societal organizations. My feeling is that what the occidental, west cultures lost is the honesty of the people. According to God, people should be honest like little children, they should state only the truth as to the best of their knowledge. Not lying and misleading and telling halve truths... In opposition of MidleEasterners where I discovered a more trustworthy atmosphere (seemed for me they lied less and take the words of God with more consideration in their daily life). That would make me to feel very bad, or awkward if I would want to tell them a lie or something.

Of course, if you have such an attitude in our "modern" and "developed" society, you would be immediately be a sitting duck, but anyway no one would believe you are telling the truth, because all have been perverted to such state, that, inherently they all are lying and therefore, they are assuming automatically, that everybody else is lying, too.

Can you imagine the ease of mind and happiness someone can feel if they are living in the midst of an amazonian tribe? When no need to tell lies and where a smile it is really a smile and not something to ease your guard for to stab you in the back, figurative speaking!

That I read some records written some thousands of years ago and be sure they written there the truth as they perceived with their senses and their knowledge at that time and wasn't filled with lies and disinformation etc. Now we are reading thousands of articles and hundreds of books and everything is full of lies and disinformation.

I think that deep down inside, OP-ie, you thought about that, but you were not were able into the description of honest people, simply because this if not impossible, at least it is extremely difficult!

I have found over the years that certain people are trust worthy to a certain point, put in certain situations those "trust" worthy people will stab you in the back the first chance they get, i guess once you get my age you learn that you can truly trust no one really, sure you can trust certain people with certain things but 9.9 times out of 10, they will shit on you at some point.

I never really understood that quotation.

Now I believe that I do.

The most humble, the poor, the old, the forgotten, the homeless and the suffering are the true "Children of God".

It is not the priests, preachers or book writers wanting to sell you their truth.

But since people still want to post that I am painting these people with too wide a brush. Please just try and understand that I am NOT saying all poor people are good and that all wealthy people are bad.

I am saying we should love ALL people regardless of race, education, religious beliefs, physical problems or mental issues.

Simple message really...

Ed Denst recently gave $250—all in $1 bills—to Claire Padama, the board president of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Council of Los Angeles, which is a Catholic charity.

“You could buy meals, you could buy yourself clothes, you could do a lot with that money. Why give it away?” KCAL9’s Rachel Kim asked Denst.

“Well, because I thought about giving back. (It) makes me feel very good,” he said.

Padama said the money will be used to help people who need rental or utility assistance.
