Galveston ISD Police Department placed schools on lockdown as a precaution due to reported home invasion in the area; Oppe, Parker, and Early Childhood University campuses affected
GALVESTON, Texas - Administration and the Galveston Independent School District Police Department initiated lockdown procedures at Oppe Elementary, Parker Elementary, and Early Childhood University at Weis campuses this morning. The lockdown emergency policy was put in place before students arrived due to their vicinity of a local police matter near the schools. The lockdown is a precautionary move by the GISD Police Department to keep students safely on campus.
At approximately 5:00 a.m., GISD Police Department Chief LeeRoy Amador received notification from Galveston Police Department Command Staff that a home invasion had occurred in the Heard's Lane area with a possible homicide. Two suspects were already in custody with a third that fled the scene and the area. The description of this suspect was limited to "a Hispanic male."
