Quoting: Anonymous Coward 43928446 can it happen on a govt' and NOT happen on the personal level? Unfortunately it doesn't quite work so well on a personal level. Simply put: The gov is essentially closest to the printing press, meaning they get the "new" dollars first. As these HI dollars move down the chain they become less and less valuable. By the time they reach you and me they're essentially worthless. Then you get all of these dollars chasing the same amount of goods, driving prices of everything through the fucking roof. Literally. Hyperinflation is not high inflation or rising inflation, it's an entirely different animal. A savage one. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 48604858 Yep. The banks will change the rules and/or just not accept the HI dollars. There will be no more free lunch, other than the BIG government debts being essentially wiped. We've had our free lunch. We've all experienced a pretty extravagant existence since the end of the 2nd WW, but it can't go on like that forever. We're seeing the beginning of the end. That which is unsustainable will not be sustained. |

With the dollar worth only $.01, I can pay off my mortgage & credit card debts with ease!" But not when a gallon of gasoline or loaf of bread going for $100. To cover their asses, everyone's going to raise prices. And property taxes will go threw the roof. And if you still have a job during this, your wages are not going to keep up with inflation. Guaranteed! For a good look at modern hyperinflation, read-up on what happened in Argentina in the mid 90's till early 2000's. :doom360: |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 43928446 United States 10/19/2013 09:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I hear ya on Argentina and have read up on many of the horrors coming from such inflation.... but, aside from the horror.... Lets say HI happens..... Take this example, our farm was purchased in 54' for 13,000. With inflation it would now cost 130,000. So if this inflation happened over say 5 years, and we've only been paying down interest, then we would only owe %10 of what we actually got. Hope you follow here.... So lets say Govt owe china $10, but HI comes making the $10 we owe them chicken feed.... Hope you're still following.... So if I owe 30k in student loans today, and HI happens over the next few years, then in 5 years it would be the same as only owing $3k today??? (Considering I work for the govt & my wages keep up) Doesn't this sound about right? |
