Important note about #Florence: We are dealing with an extremely large and powerful storm. According to the 12z ECMWF, major hurricane winds/impacts will stretch 40-60 miles out, hurricane winds will stretch 100-150 miles out, and TS force winds will stretch 200-250+ miles out.

Obviously inland flooding is going to be a problem if storm forecast remains on current track.

#Florence is strengthening with sustained winds up to 85 mph and a central minimum low pressure of 975 mb. It will likely become a major hurricane on Monday. The NHC expects Florence to make landfall somewhere on the Carolina coast as a 140-mph storm Thursday.

 Quoting: Luisport

140 mph... This is the NHC saying this too... unbelievable...

People really don't understand how serious this situation is for inland areas. I'm talking about flooding that will literally destroy big cities or at least significantly damage them. This is nothing to scoff about. According to 12Z Euro- here are some places that can see devastating rains and flooding (20 inches+ in many of these areas). Wind damage is dangerous, but in hurricanes such as Sandy, Harvey, etc.. rains and surge were really the big stories.

Roanake Virginia- 100,000 People- latest ECMWF has 20+ inches of rain
Blacksburg, Virginia- 45,000 People- 20+ inches of rain on Euro
Charlottesville, Virginia- 46,000 People- 20+ inches possible
Danville, Virginia- 42,000 People
Lynchburg, Virginia- 80,000 People- 15-20 inches of rain possible
Greensboro, North Carolina- 291,000 people- up to 20 inches of rain
Winston Salem, NC- 250,000 People- also 15-20 inches of rain possible
Fayetville, NC- 208,000- 10-15 inches of rain

And most points east of these locations (Like Durham, Cape Hatteras, Jacksonville, Willmington, Virginia Beach, etc..) Will also probably have severe rains and devastating winds. Again, nothing to laugh at. Whether you're on the coast or inland.

Not good news, less time to prepare as Florence races faster to the East coast and then stalls a bit.. and look at the increase in wind prediction at 72hrs...150mph now! I suggest people rush their Hurricane plans now before that last rush!
From 5.00pm discusion about forward speed & wind speeds:

The most notable change from
the previous advisory is that most of the models are showing a
faster motion in 3 or 4 days, which unfortunately increases the risk
of a destructive hurricane landfall. The GFS and its ensemble mean
are outliers from the main model envelope, showing the system near
the Outer Banks, while the rest of the guidance is well to the
southwest. While a near-miss isn't impossible given the spread of
the ECMWF Ensemble, there is much more support for a track to the
southwest, especially considering the poleward bias of the GFS thus
far this season. Therefore, the official track forecast is shifted a
little bit to the southwest, and is very close to the
corrected-consensus models.

Cape hatteras isn't the most populated area. However, I feel like the big story (besides changing the coastline) will be the inland flooding. We can see Fayettville, Raleigh, and even Durham under water.

And if 12Z Euro or 18Z GFS verify, you can forget about Jacksonville (in NC) and Willmington- those areas will be uninhabitable for weeks, maybe months.
