Holy shit!!

Anyone else notice that at least 10 4.0+ quakes have hit Baja California in the past 48 hours??????
 Quoting: CuriousSeeker

I posted most of them so, yes, I noticed. It was almost nonstop yesterday in the Gulf. What's more interesting to me is that after all that activity yesterday, it stopped for about 13 hours. And even since resuming a little over 2 hours ago, there have only been 3 quakes. Of course, maybe there have been more quakes than this, we still haven't seen the a.m. Mexico pop ups yet.

ETA: Now there have been 4 quakes in Baja, all over 4, since they started back up a few hours ago. Which probably does means there will be a ton of Mexico pop ups today in that area. My guess is this swarm didn't stop, it's been going on all night. They just haven't been posted yet. Time will tell.

Re: Earthquake Thread ~ Always Updated
Sorry if this has been posted already. I'm too lazy to look. Regarding New Zealand:

Slow-slip event off the coast of Gisborne

Scientists have been monitoring a slow-slip event that started in the last week off the east coast near Gisborne.

Slow-slip events in this area tend to last around a few weeks, so this one is still in its early days. Scientists have so far recorded up to 3 cm of eastward displacement at GeoNet continuous GPS sites. This is caused by up to 10-15 cm of movement on the Hikurangi plate boundary offshore of Gisborne, as you can see from the below model.

Our scientists have been anticipating this slow-slip event, as our slow-slip record has shown regular events every 1-2 years, and much larger events every 4-6 years. This event is on track to be as large as the biggest previous slow-slip event we recorded off Gisborne in March 2010.

Slow-slip events are linked to an increase in localised earthquake activity, which we are seeing off the coast of Mahia Peninsula. Most of these quakes have been too small to feel. A similar sequence of earthquakes was observed during the March 2010 slow slip event.

Looking at the ionosphere map today, South America is still engulfed in an extreme area, except that today it's an extremely low reading (blue), whereas yesterday it was extremely high (white).

Ionospheric charging activated!! Red/blue areas are under high charge and white/black is extreme!

Rocket launch AZURE seen from Andenes.
It was quite a show last night, when Andøya Space Center launched a rocket into space, releasing some chemicals into the atmosphere. It created some awesome light phenomena combined with the northern lights. This rocket has been planned for more than a year. And how lucky we were to be there at the right time.

From Spaceweather. com:
"Friday night (April 5th) in Norway, researchers at the Andøya Space Center launched two sounding rockets into a minor geomagnetic storm. The results were out of this world.

I don't know that I understand either. Was the launch purpose to see what the chemicals would do when combined with the northern lights or was it totally unrelated, and the chemicals spewed into the air from the launch created an unexpected phenomenon?

Damaging Sichuan Earthquakes Linked to Fracking Operations

Two moderate-sized earthquakes that struck the southern Sichuan Province of China last December and January were probably caused by nearby fracking operations, according to a new study published in Seismological Research Letters.

The December 2018 magnitude 5.7 and the January 2019 magnitude 5.3 earthquakes in the South Sichuan Basin caused extensive damage to farmhouses and other structures in the area. The December earthquake was especially destructive, injuring 17 people and resulting in a direct economic loss of about 50 million Chinese Yuan Renminbi (roughly $US 7.5 million).

The Changning shale gas block in the South Sichuan Basin has been the site of fracking operations since 2010, with extensive horizontal fracking injection wells becoming more common since 2014. The earthquake rate in the Changning block rose dramatically at the same time that systematic fracking began.

Hi everyone - just a quick update. I'm beyond tired and sad. Mom passed away yesterday morning early. She went to sleep late Wed. night and never woke up. Just very quietly and peacefully quit breathing. We were able, through hospice, to give her medication to make sure she had no pain. She hadn't eaten in 4 weeks. Her congestive heart failure, kidney failure, and lack of food were all contributing factors. I was by her to the end.

I will miss her terribly.

I will be back here at some point to catch up (mostly), but right now I am just too tired.

Miss you guys. Hope all are well.

So so sorry for your loss granny. There are never words of comfort enough when it comes to this. It will take time to heal. Take that time. And know that your mom will always live in your heart and mind. Her memories are never forgotten and safely tucked away in your heart's deepest red.

You and your family are in my thoughts. rose
