Same here, aside from breaking news. But if you're in bed and the shtf, no alarms/sirens will be waking you up. But then again, we don't get tornadoes often here. So it makes sense that we wouldn't have such an alarm/siren system. However we should have tsunami alarms/sirens here. In my immediate location anyway. If your TV is off, good luck to ya.
 Quoting: Simple27

I just assumed it was the same everywhere in the U.S. Even if a location doesn't get tornadoes often, if they are possible even once in a blue moon, that's all the more reason to have an alert system. Here the weather changes at the drop of a hat so everyone is hyper-weather conscious, but the warnings are still important because not everyone can be connected to a TV/radio or even phone at all times - for example, people working outside all day. And once it's a warning, typically there is little time to prepare. Even towns with sirens that go off can be caught offguard - take Joplin for example.

Thanks, and also thanks to Big D for his congrats. It is super exciting, everyone is in a good mood here, lol. What's really funny to me is that with all the weather going on last night, including actual tornadoes, normally that would be the top story on the news. Not last night, they immediately went right into the Blues victory and stayed on that topic for the first 5 minutes at least! That cracked me up. That's about the only thing that would trump severe storm damage in these parts, considering we're all weather obsessed.

Got my cast off today! Still a lot of swelling and still sore! Nice to have it gone though. I get the pins removed from the wrist bones on the 31st. I think that is where most of the pain is coming from! But, it looks good from what I can tell!
 Quoting: bigD111

Happy to hear bigD! Prayers for a continuous speedy recovery. And less pain ASAP!

It's a good feeling - i felt it last year with the Capitals. I hope the blues bruise up the bruins brutally

 Quoting: Master of Nothing

It's a very good feeling, one most St. Louisans haven't felt in their lifetimes. During the first round a friend and I were talking about how it feels like a team of destiny. I won't get into the laundry list as to why because there are a lot of things, but here are a few:

-as of Jan. 3 we were in LAST place. I'm talking in the whole league, not just our division. We were 31st out of 31.

-As a result they fired the coach and we started anew - normally not easy midway through the season, much less taking a team from last to first.

-lost our goalie and our backup goalie due to injuries and went with the 3rd guy, who prior to this season had only played in the big leagues for a total of 12 minutes. Also, earlier in the season the Blues were going to send him to the minors, and he refused to go. Not kidding, he said no, he wouldn't go because he could play. Somehow they kept him on the roster, and now here he is.

-Our player who scored the winning goal in double-OT in the last series is a St. Louisan, as was the Dallas goalie he scored against.

-the hand pass incident earlier in the recent series with the Sharks, which cost us the game and the series lead, but ultimately seemed to create some sort of karma in our favor. We came back with a vengeance and scored heavily against them the last 2 games in a row.

I could go on, but that gives you an idea. Also, the only other times in my life I felt this strong feeling of a "team of destiny" I was right - the 2011 Cardinals, and the 1999/2000 STL Rams.

I 100% agree.

They're becoming more frequent up here so I kind of worry about it. A few years back, one of my little sisters was driving home from work (she works in Boston) and had a tornado right on her ass as she was passing through Revere. An actual tornado touched down that day in Revere, minutes afterwards. It was literally right behind her. She was terrified. And unless you had 'an app for that' or the local news on, you had no idea that there was a tornado warning. Nor would you expect one up here, even less so at that time.
