Just got a phone call. I am not through to the next round. They were very enthusiastic about the talk, my qualifications, personal skills, personality etc., but they claimed that they reviewed this morning what they were looking for in their changing organisation in the coming years and believed that they needed someone with specific skills in that area....

I told her that I believe it was really a serious fault of them to not discuss that in the interview, since I have many years of expertise in leading changes in an organisation for over 25 years. We did nothing else than to reorganize, make efficiency moves, change departments, rearrange capacity etc. I was always in the middle of that proces, leading, analyzing, planning, accepting cuts in people (in numbers, not in arms and legs.)

Her reaction: Oh, I am sorry. Yes, then we maybe should have discussed that explicitly. But it did not change their decision. They will keep me in their portfolio, blah, blah..

Very strange and I was quite angry and disappointed about their decision, since I thought it was a good match from both sides. It leads you to believe that age and working many years in one company (even with many different roles in a international constant changing company) are still a big knock out factor, even though all HR people will always claim they are not.

Anyway, things will work out. There is still plenty of time left. I am too positive to give up. And to me it is a learning experience to mention something like this myself in a next interview, depending on the type of organisation.

Their loss. But the moment did suck.
