FRIDAY THE 13TH METEOR SHOWER: Earth is passing through a stream of debris from rock comet 3200 Phaethon, source of the annual Geminid meteor shower. This is an unlucky year for Geminids, because the shower's peak on Dec. 13-14 coincides with a nearly-full Moon. Lunar glare tonight will reduce visible meteor rates 5-fold or more. Next year will be better.

Nine months - that's how long the flooding in SW Iowa has been ongoing. This photo of I-29 at McPaul (exit 20) shows normal traffic on I-29, but the ramps and the county road beneath won't reopen until repairs are made this spring (weather permitting).

Happy Friday Quakesters!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

My new daughter-in-law was rushed to the hospital early this morning and it turns out she has a large uterine tumor...like, huge.

She was rushed down to a hospital in the city where she is to have it removed.

If y'all praying types would do me a solid and send one up for her that'd be great. Her name is Madi.

Thanks

Wow! Loved that Mannheim Steamroller! Great music and presentation. It was wonderful. Had a big screen behind with lots going on there, great light and effects, really well done! 2 hour and 20 minutes, of a great production. 15 in the group, but there were 6 main ones, the rest they called their orchestra! So many instruments!

Also as traumatic as it happens I was layed off from my local county government job some 9 years ago. (9 years oh my gosh) Given 2 hours to packup and get out of the office that I had worked in for 35 years. VERY TRAUMATIC situation at the time. It took a lot of work to get the retirement organized and working properly but now it is history.
Thank you IM for pointing out the buddy list and messaging. I have overlooked this feature here on GLP and did not realize it's importance. I had included a number of people in the list but I didn't realize what all you can use it for.... still learning. dummy

haha, there's probably stuff I don't know about on this site too John. And some of the stuff I do know, took me a long time to notice or figure out.

That's awful about your old job, I had never heard that story. It really incites me how good, long-time employees are treated anymore. I'm really sorry you had to go through such a terrible betrayal like that. I've been treated like crap at jobs too, but I can't imagine how irate and hurt I'd be if I'd had as many years of service as you did.

Well, the upside is you are enjoying a very nice life full of travel, family, cdog walks and GLPing, so you win in the end.

Damn, I'm so sorry to hear this. Do you know what her symptoms were that sent her to the emergency room? That is so scary. Sending my prayers for Madi. That the tumor is removed without complications and she heals quickly!

Whoa, I assume it's benign? Or are they not sure? Either way very scary, but usually big ones that grow fast (I'm assuming) are benign. Hoping for a quick recovery. Poor thing, right before Xmas!

My son said that she was feeling weird for a few days before. They were playing a game together...he works nights, so they keep weird hours...and she went to use the restroom and was stricken with sudden, excruciating pain. They went to ER at 0330 this morning.

He said the same as Kickin...that the big ones are usually benign and that is the last update that we got from him. I just tried to call again and there was no answer.

My eldest, God love him, has a problem with exaggeration at times... he said the tumor was just shy of 9 inches(!!). I don't understand how that can happen, but I guess we will find out.

Thank you for your prayers and well wishes. I knew I could count on y'all.

9 inches is huge, but it happens. Every once in a blue moon there's some story in the news about a person discovering a huge tumor they had no clue about. I'm talking tumors that weigh POUNDS. The person just thought they gained weight.

Keep us updated!
