I had the Hong Kong flu of 1968-early 1969
OMG, couldn't move for two weeks; headache / body ache / fog-horn cough / fever-sweats so that my hair matted to my head.
Fiance saw to me, then I helped him through it.
I went back to work after two weeks, but when I walked in, they said I looked hideous and sent me back home for another week of total weakness etc. Went back to work, still weak but clumsily functional for another couple weeks.
This was an A-type flu from Hong Kong, killed over a million people worldwide, and some 35,000 in the U.S.
Everyone was coughing for more than 3-4 months afterward.
There was no panic buying or anything like is going on now.
A couple flu's around the mid-70's were also severe, I remember the headaches, and one of them I'm pushing a barf bucket around on the floor trying to get to the toddlers who were also sick. OMG
If I get anything like this now it will be bye-bye cruel world..
