'Super Flower Moon' Rising - The Last Supermoon Of The Year Will Dazzle Skies

Skywatchers are set to enjoy the last supermoon of 2020 in May when the flower Moon lights up the sky.

Named for the arrival of spring flowers, the “Super Flower Moon” is the last in a series of four supermoons. It's showcasing the 4th-closest (and therefore the 4th-largest) full moon of the year.

The term "supermoon" was coined by the astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979 and refers to either a new or full Moon that occurs within 90% of perigee, its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit.

The Moon will be full on May 7 at at 10:45 UTC (6:45 a.m. ET), according to NASA.

There is nothing more beautiful than a Full Moon lighting up the sky at night. Weather permitting, skywatchers around the world will be able to see the last Supermoon of the year. Take a few minutes out of your evening and enjoy the show.

Clear Skies Everyone!

We will have clear skies here the coming days, so hopefully with clearer vision due to the lockdown, we will see it over here as well. But there is so much light everywhere around here and the skies seem so much clearer and closer where you are or anywhere in the States. Seen it when I visited MA and Texas way back in the 90s. hf

Maybe I'll dust off the ol' camera lens and get some pics, just in case.

Ummmm what???

What in the hell kind of reactions can that do to the sun??? Has anyone ever seen this before? I know I haven't. I thought a prominence was just a filament seen when black space was behind it before it turned towards the earth.

I know I have never seen a filament that large just hovering over the sun RAINING PLASMA

wtf

Wonder if it could trigger some nice CME's or some explosions of some kind...who the heck knows. Thanks for posting though

I've seen this before, but never with such a great video!

If that filament rips off, it will most likely produce a CME. Something to keep an eye on.

When you gaze up at the night sky remember that we're in space, cruising through the solar system on our pale blue dot, with a vast, three-dimensional universe all around us. And we have an outstanding view! The night sky is the deepest, most open expanse of space you could possibly look into.
