SOLAR SECTOR BOUNDARY CROSSING: Earth is about to cross a fold in the heliospheric current sheet--a vast wavy structure in interplanetary space separating regions of opposite magnetic polarity. The crossing, called a "solar sector boundary crossing," is expected on May 11th and could trigger geomagnetic activity around Earth's poles.

COMET SWAN VS THE SOLAR WIND: A struggle is underway in interplanetary space. The contestants are Comet SWAN (C/2020 F8) vs. the solar wind. The comet has an extremely long tail--wider then 20 full Moons--and this gives it lots of exposure to the solar wind.

The result is evident in this extraordinary image from Gerald Rhemann of Farm Tivoli, Namibia: [link to spaceweathergallery.com (secure)]

"I took the picture on May 4th using my 12-inch telescope," says Rhemann. "The tail was so long I had to stitch together 6 panels--and even then I could not capture the whole thing."

Comet SWAN's tail is beautiful -- and a mess, interrupted by many gaps, knots, and billowing clouds. The solar wind is to blame. Irregularities in the solar wind impress themselves onto Comet SWAN, creating the structures in Rhemann's image. The comet is, essentially, a wind sock.

There are even signs of a possible magnetic storm. Magnetic storms in comet tails have been observed before--most famously in 2007 when NASA's STEREO spacecraft watched a CME crash into Comet Encke. Encke's tail was ripped into forms like this dramatic kink in the tail of Comet SWAN: [link to spaceweather.com (secure)]

How could this happen? Magnetic fields around the comet bumped into oppositely directed magnetic fields in the solar wind. Suddenly, these fields linked together--they "reconnected"--releasing a burst of energy that disrupted the comet's tail.

Clearly, Comet SWAN is worth watching.

The closing of the hospitals

What a public betrayal

Never stand in my presence again

That’s the last knife in the back

Our “heroes” more than anyone knew what bullshit this all was

Very few spoke up

I'm in IT though, not a healthcare worker. They did a total of 2500 layoffs company wide.

There’s a lot more to Mars Max than I have time and space to detail here and now, including its connection to "fires, clashes, crashes and explosions," and how to determine when the cycle begins, peaks and ends. (See pp. 21-26 in my 2020 World Forecast Highlights for a fuller treatment.) For the present, the important point is that Mars Max is now close at hand, for the first time since 2018. It starts on June 6 this year, peaks on October 13, and finally fades away on February 1, 2021.

I haven’t time at the moment to flesh out what Mars Max portends for the rest of this year. If you’re impatient, feel free to read the above mentioned pages in my 2020 forecast. Meanwhile, be advised that Donald Trump was born under a lunar eclipse as Mars rose in the east. His astro-locality birth map shows that Mars horizon line running from his birthplace in New York through Washington DC, and across parts of the South China Sea, China, Taiwan and North Korea. More later . . . time permitting.

My animals have been going crazy all day. So hyper/playful I was thinking wtf is going on with you guys.

About the time this earthquake hit my cat was acting all spooked/hyper..darting all over the place, running after the dogs then running away from them....dogs were barky too but thought it was just due to the neighbors being out...was on the phone with a friend so didn't think too much of it.

That's quite a big earthquake and I'm in Michigan so maybe they did sense something.

A late, but interesting, development in the M6.5 Stanley #idahoearthquake response. @IDGeoSurvey hasn't been on site yet, but from available photos it sounds like this was liquefaction/lateral spreading and not ground surface rupture of the fault.
