I think we've discussed this, but I've had the same problem on 2 apps I have, the emsc app and a usgs app. I downloaded a 3rd app not too long ago, and it is spot on with alerts, and it sends them almost immediately

Here's a link. I have an android, not sure if this app is available for apple devices or not

It's ok but very very quiet we have gone from 150 plus jobs a day to 25 when I came back a couple of weeks ago to around 38 a day now so it is getting busier
But this 2nd wave is a coming make no mistake so god only knows what will happen

We recently moved to a new premises within a gated nature reserve so it is remote and very lovely up here so that is good its nice to be here and plus the gate is locked so can wander around with a spliff if I so choose lol.

The area around the Mw6.4 Nevada EQ will continue to experience more earthquakes than usual.
Some may be larger, but many smaller.

That sounds really nice, glad you are enjoying your new neighborhood!

Thank god your employer has survived, I hope the number of jobs continues to increase there, it's a good sign that it's gone up a bit since you returned. I agree though, I am concerned about a 2nd wave and the additional economic repercussions.

HOLY CRAP HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!

What is going on in NV? Wow wow wow

I can't believe the swarm thats going on there. I have never seen anything like it.

Maybe explains some of the ear ringing I've been experiencing, who knows. Something is going on thats for sure.

Got the storm in the NE, storm(s) down in FL, NV quaking, Yellowstone getting a good shake, some big ones over on the other side of the Pacific plate....

Might be about time for all that pressure to pop that's been building up. Plus I thought there was a space event that was going to cause possible increase in EQ activity...can't remember if it was the sun or planet alignment or comet or what it was...too much going on.

I did find this though, stating the Ridgecrest earthquake will increase seismic hazards, posted 5/11/2020:

"Seismologists used a recently developed model to forecast aftershocks following the recent Ridgecrest earthquake sequence. Their findings revealed a short-term increase in seismic hazard in the region."

[link to temblor.net (secure)]

Wonder if the hazard would include NV

Aftershocks from the M6.5 #NevadaEarthquake cluster in proximity to the mainshock, as expected but, interestingly, the sequence includes a halo of more distance aftershocks...

Years ago, in another lifetime, I looked at triggered earthquakes following moderately large earthquakes & concluded that halos like this can be explained by the nature of wave propagation in the earth's crust...

Continental crust has a discontinuity at depth that we call the Moho (for short). Waves from an earthquake can travel down, hit the Moho, and, if it hits at certain angles, some of the energy bounces back up.

Typically you start to see this bouncy energy at distances of 50-100 km from the mainshock, depending on the depth of the Moho. Moho bounces are thought to have contributed to damage in the San Francisco Bay Area from the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake,

and in a couple of papers I concluded that these bounces can give rise to a higher chance of triggered earthquakes/distant aftershocks. It'll be interesting to look at this sequence in detail.

Woke up to emails from Nevada friends who felt that 6.5 earthquake and its many aftershocks this morning; its epicenter was near the emerging Walker Lane system—a possible future plate boundary—that I covered last year for @wired.

@DrLucyJones

This morning's M6.5 is in the Basin&Range geologic province just like the M6.5 in Idaho on 3/31. Both are part of the stretching out of the western US as the North American plate sticks a bit to the Pacific Plate as the two move past each other.

Historically, western Nevada has had many quakes of similar size. The biggest was M7.3 in 1954 ~100 miles north of today's quake. That Fairview Peak sequence began with a M6.8 and had M6.6, M7.3 and M6.9 over the next 6 months.
