These are the Nat'l Weather Service size guidelines for reporting hail Quoting: KickinIt [link to imgur.com (secure)] CD/DVD I might have a bad memory, but I don't recall seeing that one before. I wonder if that was added somewhat recently? I've never heard/read any warnings of CD/DVD size hail. It would make sense that they'd have to add larger objects to compare hail to these days. Hopefully watermelons aren't next lol. ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

(OP) User ID: 40488826 United States 05/30/2020 01:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | SOLAR MINIMUM, INTERRUPTED: Yesterday, in the pits of the deepest Solar Minimum of the Space Age, the sun unleashed a flurry of solar flares. One of them, an M1-class explosion, was the strongest flare in nearly 3 years. The source of the activity is now turning toward Earth as it rotates into view over the sun's northeastern limb: [link to spaceweathergallery.com (secure)] The question now: What is it? Early views of the emerging active region suggest that it is a relatively small sunspot surrounded by a vast field of magnetic froth (plage). The magnetic polarity of the region marks it as a member of new Solar Cycle 25. The sunspot might already be decaying. If so, the flares will subside just as the region turns toward Earth, and the quiet of Solar Minimum will resume. It is too soon to say for sure, however. Stay tuned for updates as the region emerges more fully in the hours ahead. [link to spaceweather.com (secure)] ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

(OP) User ID: 40488826 United States 05/30/2020 02:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Talk about added anxiety for the astronauts today "It Felt Like An Earthquake": SpaceX Prototype Starship Blows Up In Massive Explosion Day Ahead Of Manned Launch In a horribly spectacular failure with the added bad timing of coming almost exactly 24 hours ahead of SpaceX and NASA's rescheduled attempt to make history by launching two astronauts into Earth's orbit as part of work on the Commercial Crew program, set for 3:22 pm ET Saturday weather permitting, the Raptor engine in SpaceX's Starship SN4 prototype blew up on its test stand in Boca Chica, Texas. “SpaceX just experienced the biggest explosion yet at its Texas site, where it’s testing prototypes for a Mars rocket,” The Atlantic's Marina Koren reported Friday afternoon. "A resident who lives nearby — just 2 miles away — said it felt like an earthquake," she added. Koren noted that at this point it doesn't appear anyone in the surrounding community was hurt in the massive blast which shook the area for miles.
