Here's How to See Comet NEOWISE Just After Sunset - It Won't Be Seen Again for Another 6800 Years
For those hoping to see Comet Neowise for themselves, here’s what to do:
Find a spot away from city lights with an unobstructed view of the sky.
Just after sunset, look below the Big Dipper in the northwest sky.
If you have them, bring binoculars or a small telescope to get the best views of this dazzling display.
Each night, the comet will continue rising increasingly higher above the northwestern horizon. [ link to www.youtube.com (secure)] Quoting: Simple27 Tonight I was able to see it from my own street! There’s a tree in my yard blocking but I can walk up the street a house or two and see it. Still so awesome. Quoting: Isis One Yay!!! Happy you got to see it! I'm gonna head back to the tower nearby tonight. The view there was absolutely amazing and will be my new spot for sky shows. If the sky is clear tonight I'll do a little video. :) ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

Thanks Simple. Insomnia is almost worse. Nothing more frustrating than laying there not sleeping at all. I fall asleep quickly, but I tend to get restless sleep. Wake up a lot briefly, then fall back asleep. But for some reason the last two days I have woken up so early in the morning, and once it's daylight there's pretty much no chance of me falling back asleep. It sucks! I hope we both have a better night tonight!
Quoting: KickinIt Try some tea, calming kind if you have it - regular if not, about 30 minutes before bed, a little milk added if you can stand that. It is the little milk that helps relax you enough to fall asleep. Shuts your mind off. Doesn't always work but my mom swore by it. Then again she swore by warm milk before bed too. I've had sleep issues since I was a teen. Since the CPaP machine, it is a little better but not perfect. No magic bullet with that thing, lol Quoting: WhiteAngel Thanks for the input. I have a lot of nighttime teas, and I do use them (more in the winter). They don't help, because my problem isn't falling asleep. It's getting deep/restful sleep and waking early. I'm hoping it's something that will magically fix itself over time. Unfortunately I'm only getting older, and sleep quality diminishes over time so there's not much I can do about it. Quoting: KickinIt What about a grounding mat? You slip between your mattress and bed spring I thing. You run a conduit out your window to the ground. Everything is about vibration and frequency. Quoting: Isis One They have grounding mats now that you can place on the floor under your desk so that you can put your bare feet on it while using the computer. I've considered getting one myself. ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

When I spotted it I just froze for a minute, staring at it, making sure I was really seeing it lol. I definitely appreciate this thread and the multitude of people who keep it going. I personally think we are about to get some major earth movements in the near future. The actual physical earth can't take much more of the poison and toxicity most of humanity inflicts upon it daily. If you guys haven't figured out by now, I am routing for team Gaia. Although, that being said, I am also routing for the human entities that want to help clean up our mess that we all, whether knowingly or not, contributed to. We were supposed to be good stewards to the earth, not take dominion over it. That only makes sense, right? Can you imagine what it would have been like if we as a whole had chosen to Love the earth, instead of poisoning it? Well, we would have clean air and water if nothing else. Now, we have a being that wants to heal at any cost. I hope everyone here has a good day! Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: Earthquake Thread ~ Always Updated The photo in this link is BEAUTIFUL!!! COMET NEOWISE UPDATE: We have some good news and some bad news. Bad news first: Comet NEOWISE is beginning to dim. Since it flew by the sun in early July, the comet's brightness has dropped by about 2 magnitudes. Good news: The comet's tail is still visible to the naked eye, and a short exposure with an off-the-shelf camera is sufficient to reveal NEOWISE's magnificence. To wit, this picture taken last night by Jeff Dai from Ankang, China: [ link to spaceweathergallery.com (secure)] "The magnitude of the comet may have gone down, but the tail is still visible to the naked eye, around 5 to 7 degrees of it," says Dai. "The comet is even friendlier to the camera. It appears at sunset and each night it is climbing higher into darker skies. I was lucky to capture the comet and a satellite flash together." The comet is now moving toward Ursa Major, the constellation of the Bear. This means observers can use the stars of the Big Dipper to find the comet. The week ahead should be a good one for even casual photographers of the night sky. [ link to spaceweather.com (secure)] ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

Quoting: KickinIt I could see it naked eye even through light clouds! Nef had a hard time seeing it at first but he too spotted it in between some of the clouds. It was faint, but I knew what it was the second I spotted it. We were up at the tower from 9:30-10:30 watching it play peek-a-boo through the clouds lol. The tail is also naked eye visible. The Big Dipper is an excellent starting point when trying to see the comet. The comet is under the Big Dipper. Northwest sky. The Stellarium app or website is helpful so that you can check the best time for you to look on any date of your choice. [ link to stellarium-web.org (secure)] I got to see the ISS fly by again tonight because of Stellarium. :) Quoting: Simple27 It will appear to zoom across the northwestern sky about an hour after sunset, below the Big Dipper, according to NASA. Quoting: Simple27 I thought after this weekend it will start to fade away as it gets further away? Looks like I was wrong: Comet NEOWISE will be closest to Earth on July 22-23, 2020. It will pass at some 64 million miles (103 million km) from our planet. The good news is that – if the comet continues looking great – the view during the night of closest approach should be nice for many of us at temperate latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere. Although binoculars are required for the celestial visitor, it will be visible at the same time we see a beautiful crescent (not too bright) moon.
