Using a tool called Hacienda, the intelligence agency seeks to ‘master the internet’ for sources of espionage. Spanish for estate, Hacienda can port scan all of the servers in a country to provide information on user endpoints and scan for potential vulnerabilities. The ability to port scan is not new, but the scale of its use by government spies, with 27 countries scanned by 2009, has shocked many familiar with the software. “In 2009, the British spy agency GCHQ made port scans a 'standard tool' to be applied against entire nations,” Heise reports. “Twenty-seven countries are listed as targets of the Hacienda [program].” [ link to rt.com] |

Systems may be attacked simply because they might eventually create a path towards a valuable espionage target, even without indications this will ever be the case. Quoting: Davos Hi Davos : ) Somewhere in this thread I did a little analysis, but I should probably do it again. It's been a while. When you say average strength of quakes, are you referring to any specific area, or just in general? ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

Interesting. CNN) -- A 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck near Guthrie, Oklahoma, at 7:41 a.m. CT (8:41 a.m. ET) Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. Earthquakes have become common in the state. In June, Oklahoma surpassed California in the number of temblors. An increase began in 2009 when 20 quakes of 3.0 magnitude or higher occurred, followed by 43 the next year and increasing every year except for 2012. Just last Sunday, there were 9 earthquakes recorded, including two that were 3.8 magnitude. "People are starting to see foundational damage, cracking around door frames," she told CNN Tuesday. Damage and injury are far more likely with quakes that register 4.0 and higher, the USGS reports. |
