Description Problems on Central Florida beaches as hundreds of people have been stung by jellyfish in Volusia County. Volusia County Beach Safety officials said 184 people were stung; 170 of those people were in New Smyrna Beach. An initial report from Saturday said 30 people were stung, but that number was closer to 300 and the majority of those people were in New Smyrna Beach as well. Minutes after Andrea Loaiza got out of the ocean in New Smyrna Beach this is what her thigh was red and swollen. She says she's 5 months pregnant and this is the first time she's ever been stung by a jellyfish. She is one of hundreds of people who got stung by jellyfish this weekend in Volusia County. Vinegar was in high demand as the number of reported stings kept climbing, according to Captain Ray Manchester with the Volusia County Beach Patrol. "It wasn't typical at all, it was an explosion, we didn't expected it," said Captain Manchester. Volusia County lifeguards stocked up with extra vinegar. "I was just sitting in the shallow end and all the sudden my skin started burning," said Loaiza. Guards had their purple flags waving to warn people of the potential hazard. We checked in with Lifeguards in Brevard County, but they say they are not having this problem. But in Volusia, it's not just the jellyfish causing problems; lifeguards throughout Central Florida are expecting bigger waves over the next fews days as Cristobal gets closer to our area. "What we've already started doing is moving equipment up to higher ground," said Captain Manchester. As lifeguards prepare for the storms, beachgoers battle with the jellyfish. The water looked flat but lifeguards said they're expecting possible 6 to 8 feet waves over the next few days. They said they don't know how the potential storm will affect the jellyfish but recommend bringing your own vinegar if you head to the beach. [ link to hisz.rsoe.hu] |

Japan ready to offer experimental drug Japan to name criteria before offering unapproved Ebola drug Japan could offer an unapproved drug under certain circumstances to help treat the deadly Ebola virus, Reuters said. “Medical professionals could make a request for T-705 in an emergency even before a decision by the World Health Organization (WHO)," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said. “In that case, we would like to respond under certain criteria.” Tokyo will cooperate with the WHO and is ready to make an international contribution. Japan's Fujifilm Holdings Corp and US’s MediVector are in talks with the US Food and Drug Administration to submit an application to expand the use of the influenza drug T-705, or favipiravir, as a treatment for Ebola.
