Tonight went from good to VERY bad in seconds. The event, for the most part, was going great. There was a lot of sneaking in alcohol and not-no-sneaking in of alcohol. This could cause us to lose our liquor license so it's obviously a big no-no. And the person hosting the event knew this for sure and did it anyway.

It was a holiday party that's held annually (of course it was my first year being there in-person). They had Santa & Mrs. Claus make an appearance and had them give out Fireball nips to the guests. We confiscated SOOOOO many damn nips throughout the night, including 99% of Santa's. It was quite mind-blowing. But nothing compared to what was to come.

Aside from the nips situation, it was all going very well. Everyone was having a great time.

The host and I confirmed the timeline more than once, and the most recent confirmation was just last night. The band, per the host, was to stop playing at 10:30 even though the party itself was going until 11:00. Mind you, the event technically should've ended at 10:30 and they were getting that extra half hour for the party at no charge because of who the host was.

Anyway, the band was told more than once it was a hard stop on the music at 10:30. When 10:30 was approaching, my GM told me to go to the opposite side of the ballroom so that we could simultaneously turn up the lights in the ballroom at 10:30. So I did my side at that time.

The host of the party absolutely lost his shit when that happened! He came at me in front of everyone in the ballroom. Yelling at the top of his lungs, cursing, just completely freaking out. I told him that HE told me the band was playing until 10:30. And that he also just confirmed it last night. The man wasn't even trying to hear me. Just screaming at me and cursing.

My GM stepped in and then omg, he went for her throat (practically, not literally, but freaking close). He followed her into the main hallway (right outside of the ballroom) and was yelling at her so damn loud. Cursing, called her a f*cking bitch, said he was going to get her fired, that they would form a "riot" in the next couple of days, that management there "sucks", etc.

Holy shit. He grabbed her arm at one point as he was cursing and yelling. She looked at him firmly and said "do NOT put your hands on me!"

At that point the officer we had on police detail had made his way to the confrontation and stepped in between them. Literally. The man was that close to my GM. There was no calming him down in that moment. He was still cursing and freaking out about it to the cop.

FFS. It should not have been like this. He's the one who gave the timeline in November and then confirmed it last night. Scary. Very scary. Thank God we had the cop there tonight.

There's more detailed info that I really shouldn't share so I'm not going to. But this was freaking intense. Sent my whole immune system into overdrive. I'm hurting and believe it's because of the huge amount of adrenaline that kicked in within seconds. It was insane.

This man, the host of tonight's event, is going to be attending the party we're doing tomorrow. More than awkward. My GM won't be there tomorrow. I'm just about sick over all of this.

Sorry for the wall of text. Needed to vent and also get this written before my mind blocks it out as the big wigs will be reaching out to me about all of this.

I certainly didn't sign up for what happened tonight, and the problem is that this host is a prominent figure there who hosts several events per year. Tonight was my first time meeting him in person. Great first impression. Ugh. He was giving me high fives and hugs earlier in the night. And then this shit show.

I have to be up in less than 6 hours for tomorrow's event so I really can't update tonight. I'm sorry. I have to try to relax and get to sleep asap.

Try to get some sleep Sim and call your GM in the morning to discuss you need extra force there to prevent this from happening again. I am sure she thinks along the same line as you do.

And if it were for me, I would seriously consider filing a complaint as a company and when it happens again cancel or ban this guy from booking events with you. Despite his 'status' and number of events, there will be others to fill that up.

If you need more time today or someone to replace you for today's event, tell her. Especially since that same idiot will be there again.

This sounded very confronting and intimidating and very narcissistic behavior. I am sorry you had to go through this.

First of all, thanks for your post.

This is still the Earthquake thread. Unfortunately we can not update it 24/7, since this is a crew of volunteers that do this next to their daily job and life and who live in different parts of the world.

But we do update it as much as we can, next to it being a thread where people share personal posts and other stuff, one day more than the other. It goes with the great atmosphere and crew we have over here. People who care for each other.

The EQ Thread defines itself as:

I surely can imagine how this must have thrown you off your core. Just know that you did nothing wrong. No matter where this blow up stems from, whether it was the booze talking or something else, this kind of aggressive behavior toward you and your GM is simply unacceptable and no matter how high profile this guy is over there, he should be called out on it by your bosses.

It is sad to witness how some people think they can overpower others with their yelling, insults and threats. I have seen my share of that in my work as well. They claim to be nice and friendly till they don't get their way and show they are just sad, pitiful people.

You most likely have not slept much over it and I hope you can shake that bad feeling and image off for the events today. And like I said, talk to your GM about it this morning and if you can not handle being confronted with this asshole again, see if someone else can take your spot or at least ask for more workforce present tonight.
