Something else to watch for... the big KS quake is at the end of the Ogallala Aquifer. The depth would be under the reservoir, so there is the potential for that water to move out from there if the quake was big enough to fracture underneath of it.

Ogallala has lost over 100' of water since the 1940's so there is a lot of air space in there.

Nevada Seismological Laboratory and UNR scientists monitor intensifying earthquake swarm
Two 4.7 magnitude earthquakes and more than 50 3.0 or greater magnitude earthquakes mark an uptick in seismic activity one week after a 4.6 magnitude earthquake struck far northwest Nevada on Nov. 4, 2014. The activity in the past week is more than in previous months combined.
This ongoing swarm is located about 40 miles southeast of Lakeview, Ore., and 40 miles northeast of Cedarville, Calif. During the past week, the University of Nevada, Reno’s Nevada Seismological Laboratory, in collaboration with the U.S. Geological Survey and seismic network operators in Washington and Oregon, has recorded six earthquakes larger than magnitude 4.

I filled up the car this afternoon. Gas was $2.99 at a Shell. I had to double check to make sure what year it was. Almost made me wish I had a big huge SUV or a lifted truck to fill up. I went in and bought a lotto ticket a pepperoni stick and some beer with my extra $15. So I guess I really didn't save any money then.

Omg! You've had a HUGE temp drop over the past few days! It's 50 degrees here right now and will get up to 60 by early afternoon. The fog is still creepy but the temp is nice at least.

That is just too cold!! Try to stay warm over there!

It was -2* on my way to work this morning. 9* when I drove home. -4* right now with wind chill pushing it to -16*. This is about a month early...

Supposed to get even colder tonight and we are not forecast to go above freezing until next Tuesday (high of 35).

Oh well, not anything I can do about it other than bundle up and make sure I warm my vehicle up before I leave. Thank you remote start!

He's a good man. Yes, the children who have to walk to school or walk to the bus and wait in the cold. : (
 Quoting: Simple27

Sorry, I think when the temps are this cold, school should be cancelled but then I am a wuss when it comes to sudden cold. Only two days ago we were in the 70's! Hello.

Can you imagine just how cold it would be if it wasn't for global warming, rofl
 Quoting: whiteangel

Growing up in Montana I remember school being canceled only once and that was due to power outage from an ice storm. We started school late a couple times since the buses were running late due to slick roads. Around here, they usually never cancel school, at least for the kids living in town. For the kids out of town, if the roads are bad the buses will not run so they're excused. By bad roads, I mean buses with tire chains are unable to drive down the road, so they have to be really bad. If the schools do anything they won't allow the kids to go outside for recess and I believe it has to be below 15* or maybe 0* before the do that.
