Been to about 10 different places today to get errands done and stock up on stuff so that I don't run out of stuff during the week at my new job. Hair cut, car wash, among many other thingies. Think I may take a quick nap. And Deano - great advice earlier! I should observe that but it's in my genes to work hard. |

Way to go Simple(MOM) you cracked past the attitude and "got in there" - that is the lifeline when its tough, when its hard - she is going to remember the times you threw that lifeline into her world. It can seem like a small thing, but when you look back you realize how big those moments were. (I just wish we had the magic rule book as parents, ha! All this improvising and working to stay ahead of them is freaking hard work!)
I am so happy I shared that now, knowing it passed along a special moment of mom/kid share in your house too.
You know what I didn't add in that original post but I will share here now, when you go to boot camp they teach you how to do everything related to personal hygiene. They really don't expect anyone to know - or they have learned through years and millions of recruits there is no common sense across the board - so they teach you things like how to brush/floss your teeth - etc. You would be amazed. But they bring everyone to the same standard not expecting anyone who arrives has any idea. That was an eye opener for me.
Quoting: Little bird Reminds me of this. This was in the mid 2000s. Maybe about 2006. My cousin had a friend that was about 25. He was from a family of several brothers and sisters. Then into the Marines right out of high school for a several years. Got married as he was leaving the Marines. That just lasted a couple years. When the divorce got final, he bought himself a house. He was living in her house when married. So when my cousin and I met him, he was really just out on his own for 1st time ever. We were helping him move in. It was getting late, so we all stopped. My cousin and I made a booze run. Then planned on getting food. When we got back, to decided what we all wanted to get, the kitchen was a smokey mess. He was trying to fix us all some food. He had a few pounds of hamburger and 2 boxes of Hamburger Helper and a gallon of milk. He honestly didn't know how to cook it. Even with the directions. A 25 year old man, and he could not cook. He was pretty embarrassed. He told us why and was almost crying... In all his live he never HAD to cook. Growing up, if his mom didn't cook, there was always a sister home to cook. In high school he just bought lunch. Then at 18, straight into the Marines. He was young and not married. So he always just lived in the barracks and went to the Mess or out at the bars to eat. Then leaving the Marines he got married and moved into her house with her 2 daughters. So, just like being a kid. If the wife didn't cook the older daughter did. We were drunk, and he was not so embarrassed after like an hour. But it was kinda sad. -Everything's more awesome when you lean into it. |

We were taught but we forgot we were taught. Why, because we were shown and it wasn't a cooking lesson, or a washing of the face lesson, or correctly brushing teeth lesson. It was shown to us, so we forgot we were taught. I was watching my son brush his teeth the other day. I had to re-show him how as bad habits took over. It takes kids a long time to "remember" what they are shown. My daughter was brushing very tangled hair from the top of her head instead of starting at the bottom of her hair. I picked up my hairbrush and showed her how I have to brush out my extremely curly hair - her's is very straight. I told her if I brushed mine like she was, I would never get the hair untangled from the brush and would be half bald. She has been brushing it correctly since. He has been brushing correctly since. Kids are stupid! You gotta remember that one thing. Stupid. Remind them. Remind them. Remind them. Remind them. |

I had SO many nightmares last night. So realistic that I had to get up and check things out. So weird how we can have so many bad dreams in such a short period of time. Sleep is precious! P.S. I had to work from home today because of my lack of sleep due to nightmares. So weird, but it really messed my sleep up. I guess be grateful that you have someone who loves you waiting for you in your bed. I go to bed alone every night. No one hugs me and tells me they love me. No one kisses my forehead. I just crawl in... ~*Ride the Wave*~ |
