Ancient Stories Provided An Early Warning About Potential Seattle EarthquakesOral tradition played – and still plays – an important role in many societies. The subjects of these stories range from fantastic fairy tales to myths, tales based on real persons, places or historic events. But interestingly enough, these stories may also represent attempts to record and transfer knowledge of past geological catastrophes as a warning from generation to generation. In 1896, the geologist B.K. Emerson published an article where he proposed that not only landscapes, but also geological phenomena, like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods or landslides inspired ancient people, who explained their origin in “geological myths.” [ link to www.forbes.com] More in link ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

A solar wind stream flowing from these holes could reach Earth within the next 48-72 hours and lead to elevated geomagnetic at higher latitudes. A minor (G1) geomagnetic storm watch beginning on July 31st has been issued by the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC). [ link to www.solarham.net] Already the solar winds are ticking up at 540. Bz is staying north so far. [ link to www.spaceweatherlive.com] Quake watch is going up |

I don't see how it can help. I think the theory is, 10 or 30 seconds would be enough time to stop elevators in skyscrapers, trains and light rail. Notify local emergency management officials. But we're far away from the system Japan uses. -Everything's more awesome when you lean into it. |

The first time I saw it driving up, what I-5 between Portland and Seattle, I just about crapped my pants (I live in the desert most of my life). It's not only huge, but kind of eerie there viewing it from the interstate. I guess because its a stratovolcano it gets its steep posture. Hope that puppy don't blow anytime soon...
